    oh what a night

late september back in.... no wait; it's still June

I hope it is true that trouble only comes in threes.

We have a whole house fan that helps to ventilate when it is hot. Pulls all the air out of the house and up through the attic which is where I have my office.

The think was making a heckofa racket last night, so I moved part of the cover to see if it was rubbing. Stuck my fingers right in the blades. OUCH
Fortunately, I didn't cut anything off, but I did get good and smacked.

The squeaking was driving me crazy, so I shut the thing off and turned on the little window unit I have up there. After about 20 miniutes I hear a BANG and the window ac starts shaking and vibrating like crazy. So now I am up on the roof with my bandaged hand looking into the air conditioner to find out what is up. Seems two blades from the radial fan broke and now it is out of balance. Can't use it that way.

OK, now I am sitting in my office/attic with no fans or ac trying to focus and at least get a little bit of work done, and I start to hear a really loud crunching noise. There are no fans on and my cpu is off, so it is pretty much totally quiet up there. The crunching is seriously loud. I stalk the noise which continues even tho I am bumping into all the things I just moved to get to the window unit. Behind a bookcase I find a mouse having a swell time munching on one of those biodegradable packing peanuts. Great.

I am down both of my cooling devices in one of the hottest summers on record and I have rodents in a room that has my collections in it. It is threes, right?

Yikes, you've really had your share of troubles!!

Sounds like a contingent from the museum needs to check on you to make sure your streak of bad luck doesn't take a sudden turn ... for the worse.

I'd be careful (given what's already happened) and stay away from any power tools or sharp objects!

OUCH! That sucks my friend. Yeah I would nip that puppy in the bud immediately and get some pest control in there. If it means boxing your things up to let those guys get in there, I would do it. Better you save your collection and your house than to let those critters get a firm hold on your property. I know what it's like to wake up to a potential disaster so my heart goes out to you. But I would be proactive and attack that problem pronto. I'm not sure about your fan because I'm not familair with your description. It doesn't sound like a ceiling fan.

Oil of peppermint will ward off mice. There are a couple of natural repellents out there created with them. Ace Hdwe carried one for around 8 bucks. Won't harm other animals or damage your collection in any way. Plus it makes them go away not kill them so they rot in your walls.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.

I have constant problems with mice and probably have about 30 of those repellants in the house. I've been trying to take a picture of the one that enjoys sitting on top of the one right next to my desk so I can send it to the manufacturer. He just loves to taunt me as he sits there. Don't waste your money on them.

All the flooring in my house is linoleum (don't ask) which I have repeatedly washed in peppermint oil. It does nothing.

There are only two things that actually work to get rid of mice:

              1. A cat.

              2. One of those spring loaded mouse traps that snap their necks.

BTW if you have seen one in your house... you probably have more! All they do is poop and breed.

              Good luck with the fan!
