Saw the debut of David Beckham last night

I attended the D.C. United/ L.A. Galaxy last night. Right before the game, my son and I were standing about 10 yards from Beckham but he was busy getting warmed up for the game.

About 20 minutes left in the game, he went in. Although he seemed a bit hesitant, the sell out crowd nearly erupted every time he simply touched the ball. He did take on free kick from nearly 35 yards away and in his typical bending style nearly put it in the net even from that distance.

Great game and was glad to be part of history.

He'll be here this weekend. (Massachusetts). My buddy is a season ticket holder for the New England Revolution and will be there. I just can't watch soccer myself.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.

No offense but he is washed up. Maybe if he came here 5 years ago he'd have something to contribute. Now, I'm not soo sure.

He's definitely not washed up. Yeah, he's 32 and can't run with the 20 year olds but he brings leadership to his team as I saw him definitely working like a field general during the time he played. He also brings marketability to MLS just as Pele did back in the '70's. I think D.C. United generally attracts 10-12,000 per game. There were close to 50,000 people there last night.

He took a free kick from about 35 yards out and just about bent it into the goal although I think he was trying to get it up close for a header.

It was great to see Landon Donovan as well since he is the best U.S. player and almost scored a couple of times.

And no, I didn't see Posh Spice. I assume she was sitting in one of the Club level boxes but no camera was on her as far as I could tell.

Soccer is an acquired taste just like any other sport. To me, it's more exciting than watching any other sport except NFL and College Football and College Hoops. Even though the scores are low (last night was 1-nil), there were about 20 shots that almost went in which makes it really exciting. Also, the crowd is different. Chanting, drumming, flag waving, the entire game.
