    Lets Try And Remember

We have lost a singer and an actor that is true and I am not trying to take anything away from them their families or how we feel about them......

But keep in mind the nameless and faceless troops we lose everyday! They might not have made movies or entertained us with their musical talents, but they fight and die so you and I can live FREE.

People are not only mourning the loss of "a singer and an actor" but in a way, the loss (or jarring shock) to their childhood memories. Whether through a poster, TV shows or some music, these people were iconic to the 70's and 80's. Many folks are feeling that a little bit of their past (and its supposed stability) has been ripped from them, apart from the obvious sadness over the death of well known celebrities.

Not to diminish the deaths of soldiers or those currently protesting oppressive regime's in other countries (and giving their lives for THEIR countries freedom), but in these cases I think we are talking about 2 different phenomena... the people themselves and the cultural icons they became (and how those iconic memories may have impacted our childhood).

    Just IMHO, of course.

Also, given the fact that one was 50 and the other was 62, it also is jarring to many of us on a whole different level... a not so subtle reminder of our own fragility and mortality. (In my case, I turn 50 next month and it does given one pause, to say the least...)

As a veteran who helped secure Panama City's airport during our invasion I appreciate all of our men and women in harms way. Maybe we need to appreciate them more but the events today don't relate to honoring our fallen vets. Every time I see a man or woman in uniform I always go up to them, shake their hand and thank them.

I agree....I'm sure most people are grateful we have people protecting our freedom(me being one of them)....It's just that when a public person who you have an attachment to dies' you feel it differently

We also shouldn't forget about the starving puppies.

I also applaud people everywhere who fight for their beliefs and freedom, without the benefit of their country's uniform or recognition. The Vets have (and certainly deserve) their recognition. Likewise, any person willing to place their life on the line to reveal corruption or attrocities of any kind.

In any event, today has been a very jarring day ...

That in a sense is what I am trying to get across here, especially in Michael's case. Icon or not lets remember all the allegations that a lot of people I talk to excuse in a sense because of who he is or really was! Icon or not there were waaaay to many allegations of sexual abuse against children so when I read all the positive posts here I think to myself we might have our moral priorities a little mixed up!

I think today, people (hearing the news of these 3 deaths) perhaps are thinking more about mortality than morality, given the actual events of the past 24 hours.. (There's certainly time for that later for those who wish, but that's an entirely different discussion).

                        So True......
Lo there do I see my Father.
Lo there do I see my Mother and my Sisters and my Brothers.
Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
                        Lo they do call me.
They bid me take my place among them.
In the halls of Valhalla where the brave may live forever.

When I heard about Farrah, I thought about Ed McMahon and my next thought was, "I wonder who's next?" (the so-called rule of threes). Didn't expect #3 to come the same day and it really kind of made that rule of three thing seem kind of plausible.
