Kinda tough losing an icon of the 70's and an icon of the 80's in the same day.

Yeah, Thriller was once upon a time. I'm talking about all the stuff after Thriller.

It's so weird that being, not a star, not a superstar, but a certified cultural phenom like Elvis, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, etc almost insures an early exit from this world.

I kind of disagree with some of that .... I don't think James Dean and Marilyn were "certified cultural phenoms" until after they died.

I was a big fan of him in his prime...but I despised him when the child molestation thing made him a joke.

Either way...he was the greatest entertainer of our time...and for that...I say RIP.

Guess the death thread got pulled? I just read it last night and I'm not too surprised. It was getting nasty!
My take on MJ is that he was so cool back in the 80's but after BAD he just started to get progressively weirder especially with all the surgeries. I still like his 80's music and he will be missed.
I just read a news blurb this morning saying that one of his kids thought he was joking around when he collapsed so at least one of his kids must've been right there when it happened. That's so sad.
I also saw a newscrawler quote saying his daughter was at the hospital when the doctor came out and said, "I'm so sorry your father has passed away" and she screamed. "no, no, no, daddy, daddy, no, no, no" and that nearly made me cry.
All the stuff that's yet to be revealed about this will probably continue to surprise for weeks to come.

Parts of it were toys...the factual parts, the videos, the personal memories people had of Michael...the specualtive parts of the thread, and the one's that caused the problems in that thread, will not be missed...speculation is based wholly in opinion. I could speculate that Lisa Marie Presley didn't really love Michael Jackson...but unlike others in that thread...it is not a factual basis for me to judge their marriage simply because that is my opinion I formed and not based in fact at all...because I wasn't there to view their marriage anymore than any of the naysayers were in Michael's room to know what really went on. No matter what spin they try and put on it, they were speculating and that's it. Very simple. If people, not just here either, stopped confusing speculation with fact things like that thread won't happen and people, like myself, won't get offended by opinions formed totally out of assumptions...everyone knows what happens when you assume things...
Fact is there wasn't enough evidence for top lawyers to convict Michael in a court of law....therefore he shouldn't be convicted by toy collectors on a message board either...I shouldn't have to explain this to grown adults, that's the sad part. Half of the arguments in that thread shouldn't have even been arguments. Fact and fiction are two totally different things and the facts of the matter are Michael was convicted of nothing at all. My hat's off to the mods for wiping it out...

I concur as well. As I have tried to say before, life is short enough as it is. Let's get on with the business of what's relevant today and leave yesterday behind. If you want to see Jackson, turn on the TV to any channel and you'll get it. Otherwise may I suggest a DVD rental? Mall Cop. The family and I watched that last night and I laughed my tail off. Much needed laughter in view of all of the depressing news of recent events.

Well...aside from world famous MJ...the others are really mostly "regional" type celebrities...perhaps not Farrah back in the 70s...but not so much today.

But McMahon and Mays are practically unknown outside non-English speaking countries.

I'm sure celebrities from other countries that you yourself have not heard off have died as well.

I can't help but wonder if Michael couldn't have mounted a measurable comeback with his re-emergence to the music scene. The advance ticket sales alone show the interest was there and he had the talent to make a comeback. It goes without saying that we will never know.

Heck, Elvis did it and he had to overcome a significant absence that saw the rise of the Beatles and a significant change in music styles during his absence.

Music has actually been in a lull for a long time and Michael might could have made some waves on talent alone if he was going to shake it up a bit.

Elvis benefited from looking really good during his comeback (probably the best he ever looked) and Michael's good-looking days have been over for almost 20 years, but I have no doubt the talent and ability to innovate might have still been abundant.
