It could get as bad as it was in the 1970's and it most likely will. We are doing many of the same things now that were done back then. Increased spending to little positive effect on the economy, increased taxation (some now, but more is coming) and monetizing (printing money, that is happening now in a big way) of the swelling debt.
In the 1970's we had a big tax burden, big inflation and extended negative economic growth.
But the new factor is the nationalization push. How the government took control of much of the banking industry and now much of the car industry.
We are putting many of the same stuff into play that Japan did and England did and they are just now digging themselves out of it.
I sure hope not. I don't know how much more people can take. I'm extremely lucky that I don't have to worry. I just feel so bad for people that are going through bad times. I hope it gets better sooner than later

I respect Warren Buffet but he isn't a trained economist and often says things for his own personal benefit.
I saw him on a CNBC special recently and he did say he thought there was still some things to work through but still felt strong about the long term.
Personally, I think it is going to take a while to work things out and I can see things getting slightly worse but there are signs of stabilization. A lot of people are afraid and that is understandable.
This also presents an opportunity for those that who are bold and brave. Those who have enough guts and foresight will be rewarded down the road.

That's okay; I know how to work a machine gun, and a tank.

"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris Mannix
