    Anyone collect Movie Posters?

Going through the stuff I left at my parents house I found a 1977 Star Wars Movie poster. I was wondering if anyone out there is a collector and can help me figure out what condition its in and what it may be worth?

    Thanks
    Mitch

Well, if it's an original poster from the theater, you could be sitting on a nice money maker. Here are a few examples on Ebay:

Star Wars Vintage ANH Original Movie Poster 1 Sheet - eBay (item 400057551552 end time Jul-22-09 20:30:48 PDT)

STAR WARS * 1SH ORIGINAL MOVIE POSTER 1977 LINEN BACKED - eBay (item 180360333710 end time Jul-21-09 16:22:59 PDT)

STAR WARS Original 1st Film Movie POSTER George Lucas - eBay (item 250448037964 end time Jun-26-09 12:35:09 PDT)

It depends on what version it is and of course condition. I think most of the posters from the 70's were folded and not rolled but it can be worth some decent scratch.

I believe the most valuable poster is an original Revenge of the Jedi poster prior to the name change to Return of the Jedi.

I have an original Empire Strikes Back Style B poster. I haven't looked to see what it's worth. Also, if memory serves me right, there was a stockpile of original posters and other movie items found in one of the Lucas warehouse. A couple of years ago, Lucas Studios were selling them but I can't remember how much they were asking for some of them. I do remember some items were reasonably priced and thought that some collectors who paid a fortune for some of them probably weren't too happy.

Yeah its original. When I was in 6th grade my best friends dad was the manager of the theater that was showing Star Wars. He used to givce me all kinds of movie posters. The Star Wars is the last one I have.

I'll post a pic tonight, but its the one that looks like a poster pasted on a wall

No, I sold the other ones right after I got married (Buck Rogers, Smokey and the Bandit II etc...)

I always thought that video rental posters are virtually worthless to movie poster collectors. My parents used to own a video store, so we had hundreds and hundreds of posters, many never even opened. We ended giving most of them away (I kept a few). I'd hate to think some of those would be worth decent money now.

I'd check on Ebay under the completed sales of 1977 Star Wars posters. That should give you some idea of what they've sold for in the past.

20 years ago, me and my Dad visited a guy who was selling tons of vintage posters.
He had owned a chain of smaller movie theatres.

He had 50s originals (Black Lagoon, Mole People, Chris Lee Dracula,...)
He charged 50 cents a piece....

Back then, I was still a student, and my Dad didn't believe in spending much on this kind of stuff. I should have bought them all. But I didn't have my own money.

I did snag two Black Lagoon originals, though, and a couple of Bonds (Thunderball, Goldfinger,...)
I still have about twenty in total I think.
                      .
                      .
                      .
