    Clerks 2 anyone?

I've been curious to see Clerks 2 for some time and I'm glad I rented it. I found it to be a really good film. If you let it -the film does connect with you in some parts. It can make you a bit sentimental if you feel your life is stuck in a rut.

I had not even seen Clerks 1. So I rented Clerks 1 tonight after seeing Clerks 2. Clerks 2 is more like Kevin Smith doing his best John Hughes imitation. The storyline has a John Hughes hook to it. The thing is Hughes never re-visited any of his favorite characters after some years had passed. Kevin Smith gets to do so and sucessfully I think. I really like the situation he puts them in and how time has passed. Also the mucial number was really good.

I guess Clerks 2 is more commercial. Rosario Dawson is there to pull in all the audience which is not familiar with or fans of these characters. She does a good job basically. Seeing in the bonus materials who they were thinking of using I think she was the best out of them all.

The dialogue is not as sharp as it was in Clerks 1. The part where the woman tries to Radall with the video-tapes in Clerks 1 is arguably one of the best written scenes. "I don't appreciate your ruse ma'am." Randall Graves really stole the show with his wit in #1. I don't think there's as funny an interchange as that in the sequel but to be fair the story is still Dante's and the actor who plays Randall, Jeff Anderson, doesn't like playing the character. So this will probably be the last time he ever plays him. That's a real shame because there's good chemistry between Dante and Randall.

Clerks 2 was apleasant surprise. I was skeptical going in, but after a slow first 20 minutes, I thought it was a very worthy sequel. The first Clerks came out while I was working at a video store, so it was pretty much the bible for us. He really nailed the mundane nature of the job and the specific things that drive a video store clerk crazy.

I own all the Kevin Smith movies, but haven't watched Clerks II yet. If you blinked and missed it, you should check out Clerks: The Animated Series on DVD. It's hilarious.

I saw when it ran in the theatre and found it to be pretty funny.
I can't say much without spoinling it, but there is one scene where the Lord of The Rings trilogy gets ripped on in favor of the orginal Star Wars trilogy.
Not only did it crack me up, I agreed witht sentiment.

I have all of Kevin Smith's films (even Jersey Girl which I have yet to watch). But Clerks II is one of the best. I don't think you can really compare Clerks I and II aside from the sequel being 10 years later down the road. Mallrats left much to be desired. Chasing Amy was better but more of a love story. Dogma is my personal fave just to see Alanis Morrissette playing the part of ... well I won't tell you in case you haven't seen it. That leaves Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back which is a little over the top but connects to Clerks II if you watch the deleted scenes in Clerks II.

But I would highly recommend "An Evening with Kevin Smith" (either 1 or 2). Both show him doing his famous Q&A "Stand-Up" routines. He takes questions from the audience about his films and kind of runs away with the answers.

I still find Chasing Amy to be his best film. I'm not the biggest Kevin Smith fan but I do admire his wit and style. Better than the average writer-director but far from the best...

I've never been a Kevein Smith fan. Maybe I need to give him a second chance and check it out.

Chasing Amy is my favorite Kevin Smith film, though Clerks is probably funnier. I really couldn't get into Mallrats, though. It's one of the only movies I stopped watching (on video) and put in something else.
