            What talent did he have?
Personality and charm. Which is more than I can say for 75% of the people on TV nowadays. Ed had a friendly on-air demeanor that made him the perfect second banana to Carson, and he worked well solo too. A great emce for any event, even a bad super hero roast!

Poor guy. He had it rough the last few years. Had some sort of neck injury that stunted any chance of getting work. Then he had cash troubles because of it.

I enjoyed Ed over the years. He was cool.

Mostly being know as a second banana to Johnny Carson and Dick Clark. Other than that,he'll be know as host of Star Search.

So Ed's finally gone to that great Publisher's Clearing House in the sky. He will be missed. For those who may or may not know, Ed McMahon was the host or emcee on the rare TV special "Legends of the Super Heroes: The Roast" 1979. The second of the 2 specials with Adam West and Burt Ward as Batman and Robin and a relatively no name cast as Captain Marvel, Green Lantern, Hawkman, the Flash, Black Canary, and the Huntress. Ed McMahon's most memorable moment is trying to converse with Solomon Grundy and getting beaten up by him for mentioning the swamp, to which Grundy would reply, "HATE SWAMP!"
I will miss Ed's laughter to Johnny Carson's liners on the Tonight Show.

I think you're splitting hairs on what defines "talent".

The guy charmed millions of people and held his place in pop culture for
                              decades---if that's not a talented move, I don't know what is.

Ed made his job look "easy"....THAT was part of his talent

                              RIP
