I know I saw that. The whole system of suing people has become ridiculous. Its not about getting the money anymore. It seems to be more about getting the judgement , and basically destroying the persons credit....... or at least that's how it seems when these astronomical $$$ amounts in judgements are awarded.

      Something i've wondered about.

Is there any legal issue about putting copyrighted stuff on youtube ?

Or is that a different matter because people can't download anything ?

I did notice some videos on youtube have the audio removed because it infringes on copyrighted material.

        Hmmmm....

It's funny how the whole filesharing stuff has worked out.

        >It seems to be more about getting the judgement , and basically destroying the persons credit

Well, yeah. They can't sue EVERYBODY; so you try to get scary judgements to desuade folks. You may only get one out of every 10,000 so you gotta make it not worth the risk.

One thing I could never understand .......

You can legally record a song on a tape and give or loan that tape to your friend, correct ?

Why is free filesharing any different ?

Properly; no. If you read the small print of most copyright notices there's a bit about redistribution, which includes giving a copy to your friends. It's not usually prosecuted 'cos.... well; the companies would never know, and even if they did you've got to prove "loss of value" from the transaction. (Which might mean that freind wouldn't have to buy the album, so they'd lose one sale.)

Filesharing scared the execs 'cos it happened on such a large scale. And quickly. You yourself could only make SO MANY tapes for people, but tens of thousands of copies could be downloaded online in almost no time. (Depending on the bandwidth of the provider....)
