I too have a problem with the roids thing, but that aside, Hank had a lot more pressure on him when he did it. The idea of an African American owning the home run record was too much for some. He got death threats and such.
Even besides that, he was a class guy, unlike Mr. Bonds. Class doesn't mean much where records are concerned, but it's always more cool when the record holder isn't a tool.
Paul, you are right, Bonds does have impressive numbers. How many would he have if he stayed that skinny steroid free guy from 1987? He would have a lot of homers, I'd say about 450 but not the record. He would also lose his walks record and many more. How about the poor athletes who don't believe in juicing and are decent in their own right but would be superstars with the juice? I really feel for those guys.
I'm certainly not objective on this as I have disliked Bonds since pretty much his rookie year.
But since it is all but factual (I'll give it a small room for doubt) that his home run production increased because of steroids, I don't feel he deserves the record. It degrades Aaron's accomplishment (not to mention Ruth's).
Also the mark of a True Sports Champion is the Rings....Barry=0
Also Look at his HR's He never cracked 50 or 60 but In 2001 wow 73 just like that then again falls back into the 40's....at least McGuire and Sosa who I'm sure were also juiced had 60 follow up seasons......Barry just couldn't stand the thought of McGuire having that record or Gasp!.. Sammy Sosa!......
