I have never seen a joint like that either. the other piece you were asking about has butterfly joints which are the best type for drawer construction but this looks like something similar....maybe a custom job

That first piece is a beauty. Now that I have seen it, I don't think it is veneer but solid wood (probably mahogany). The back is solid wood as well.
I looked at the original pictures of the drawers and dovetailing and it looks like solid wood to me. The secondary woods may also be mahogany.
The mark on the back is not a maker's mark. Probably just a note on staining or sizing of piece.
I am also guessing the reason that both sides stained on the top was to look at each side and have the one with the most eye appeal on top.
I still say colonial dresser made around 1920's.
Personally, I would ask $500 obo. It is a nice desirable design and although I think $500 might be a stretch...$350-$400 isn't.
Hope that helps."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

It looks just like a desk I have at home which is mohagony veneer over oak. It looks like solid mohagany until you really examine it. If its just an ordinary antique dresser I think around 200-400 is about right compared to similiar pieces Ive seen. You would think higher compared to the garbage at Ikea that sells for the same price or more but unfortunately thats not the case. But then again, On antique roadshow, what someone thought was a common old piece of furniture turns out to be worth a mint because of who made it. I'd take a picture of it to a few antique shops to try and get a better idea .
