Wiped my computer clean - now it's like 2002

This past weekend I had some really nasty computer problems.
I guess it was a virus, but I still don't know for sure.
Incase you're interested in the events of it .....

    Thursday it started acting up.
The computer would shut off and reboot for no reason multiple times thoughout the day...
Friday my AVGfree virus scan comes up with an "error and can't continue" -- and I didn't even run it.
I dumped AVG and tried to reload it, but it wouldn't install.
I also couldn't completely get rid of AVG for some reason.
I wound up dumping it by going in DOS but it still didn't help my problems ..
As a matter of fact the problem got worse.
Saturday and Sunday the computer kept crashing every 3 minutes on top of the shutting off for no reason.
Now the computer also wouldn't let me download or install ANYTHING.
    That was that last straw.
In a fit of rage (last night) I totally wiped out everything and used the recovery.

    So far, so good.
The only problem is i'm running on 2002 programs that came with the computer --- but you know ... I like it, and am considering not downloading any more Windows updates
I never realized how much I missed how the old Windows are structured.

I did download Flash so I can watch youtube.
So far that's all I have downloaded.

    Question people.
Before I did the big wipe, I saved my pictures on a CD.
Do you think some of the virus might be hiding in them and if I put them back on it will mess my "new" computer up again ?

    Thanks

Just make sure you have up to date anti virus installed before you copy your pics back. Setup the virus software to scan all files, if something is infected that should catch it. Hope that helps.

      The only thing ....
If AVG didn't catch it the first time and the nasty was able to disable AVG, wouldn't that happen again ?

BTW, I only use AVG because it's free and easy to use.
