What's Up with Mexico's Men's National Soccer Team?

I can't believe they are pretty close to getting eliminated from being able to play in the 2010 World Cup.

2-1 loss to El Salvador and an earlier loss of 6-0 to Belize? They are a much stronger team than that.

Even though the U.S. looked embarassing against Costa Rica earlier this week with a 3-1 loss, they looked really good against Honduras. U.S. and Mexico meet up next at Azteca Stadium where I don't think the U.S. has ever beat Mexico there or if they have...it has been many years ago.

I didn't know Mexico was so close to the edge for 2010, good luck to them.

We just booked our ticket yesterday, Go Socceroos!

    Cheers,

Top 3 teams from the Concacaf qualify and the 4th place team plays the 5th place team from South America for the last spot.

Still a lot of games to be played but Costa Rica is in 1st with 12 points, USA 2nd with 10, El Salvador 3rd 5 pts, Honduras 4th with 4, Mexico 5th with 3.

I realize that 1 game can put Mexico right back to 3rd place but they can't seem to beat El Salvador or Honduras. They are a quality team and will probably be able to squeak in but they have a tough road ahead. It's usually the U.S. and Mexico battling it out for the Concacaf title but it looks like it may be Costa Rica and the U.S. this time around.

Since Canada never goes anywhere I never got the World Cup bug. ...Maybe if our guys took off their parkas and winter boots they could run faster?

USA has never beaten Mexico in Azteca Stadium...but they will finally lose to the Americans there.

Mexico sucks...embarrassing...a country of 109 million with a rich soccer tradition...losing to the likes of el Salvador and Belize...embarrassing.

No wonder the Mexican media calls them "los ratones verdes"...the green mice...lol.

They have fired about three coaches in a row now.

...and get this...their best player right now has been washed up 36 year old midfielder...Cuauhtemoc Blanco.

The most disappointing player to me has been their captain...Rafael Marquez...a premier player for FC Barcelona...yet he plays like garbage in the Mexican national team...he is a disgrace...perhaps he just doesn't care...and wants to go back to Spain as soon as possible.

Mexico is in turmoil right now...not just the national team. The current drug wars, the swine flu, earthquakes, the economy...and just this weekend...42 kids were burned alive in a day care center.

Mexico is going through an all around crisis right now.

I honestly do route for them when they aren't playing the USA. I think they play Trinidad and Tobago tonight which is a must win. Lose or tie to them and you are toast but a win would put them right back in the mix and will make the USA/Mexico game at Azteca very interesting.

Blanco is a good MLS player which isn't saying much. I have watched him a few times live against D.C. United.

Canada like the U.S. isn't a soccer nation. Canada will catch on eventually and the U.S. is starting to catch up. I have said it before and will say it again that the U.S. will be a major world soccer power 10 years from now.

Kids are not being taught traditional U.S. tactical soccer anymore. My 8 year old plays in the NCSL (National Capital Soccer League) which is one of the better leagues in the U.S. My jaw drops open when I see what some of these 8 year olds can do. Their foot skills rival what a High School player could do 20 years ago.

It sounds counter-intuitive but the better clubs are teaching the kids to play like ball hogs and never pass the ball to develop their individual foot skills and help with creativity with no criticism and will teach them more of the tactical side when they are about 13 and can grasp the finer aspects.

The U.S. has a decent soccer team but I think we are still one more generation away from seeing superior soccer in the U.S.

                Agreed ^ ^ ^ ^ ^

P.S. Blanco was a great player in his prime...but by the time he joined the MSL...he was already on the downhill.

Great win by Mexico the other night. It will definitely make the U.S./Mexico matchup a major event at Azteca in August.

USA will win at Azteca Stadium for the first time...this current Mexican team really sucks.
