This was really a great week in finding goodies. The sales are starting to really kick in around here and they are everywhere. Too bad that there is not enough of me to go around to get to them all fast enough.
This week really started off great. My gf and I went around shopping at some antique malls that we like to frequent. We found a couple of goodies that we both like. Before we left my gf found this statue. She showed it to me and said that she really liked this particular piece. I told her if she wanted it to get it. She told me that is was $75.00 for this piece. I thought that she was kidding. So I go over and pick it up to see the price on the bottom. This sucker was very heavy. I look at the price. Sure enough $75.00 bucks. It looks like my gf was not pulling my leg at all. There was a clerk standing near by. I asked what was so special about this piece as I did not see any markings on it any where. I asked what was it or who is it and who made it and what is it made of. The clerk told me that the person that brought the piece in said that it was made from copper. The name of the statue is The Godess of Money. The story goes from the lady that brought it in to sell it is that this statue brings about good fortunes to those who have it in their possession. At this point in time like the most of you out there reading this I was really skeptical so I raised an eye brow and thought to myself yeah right. How many times have you heard this one before? Some people will go to any lengths to make a quick sale. The only problem that I have with that is I do not want to their sucker.
So on that note I inquired further. No one else in the antique mall really knew anything else about this piece. Except for the fact that someone said that the lady told them that she had paid big $$$ for this piece when she bought it.
Still skeptical.....I asked OK then if this piece is sooooo great than why did the lady bring it here to sell it? Is it not working for her or what? We all laughted and cut up for a while joking and talking about the piece in question. Naturally no one had a real answer for that as the store clerks all looked dumb founded as they probably starting thinking like me. That is a good question.
Anyway....I took a liking to the piece because it is really neat and really heavy so it appears to be made of substance. Most crap today that is manufactured is made in China and sold from Wal-Mart. I know for a fact that Wal-Mart never carried anything this nice before.
Again, I told my gf if you want it get it. That is my policy. My gf was skeptical after I kind of blew everyone away with the above question. My gf was becoming iffy about getting it at that point. Not because of the price so much, but the hype that was behind it. It sounded like a fast sales pitch.
Finally, I told my gf to get it. I said we are going to buy it because I even started taking a liking to it to. The more I seen it and held it the more that I liked it. So needless to say I bought it. We checked out and paid and left the antique mall.
We got in the car and was still kind of joking one another back in forth about the piece and what all that it is supposed to do. My gf came up with the idea of going to a convenience store that was near by and buying some lotto scratcher tickets. I was like OK whatever you want to do. I am a pretty laid back dude for the most part so I just kind of go with the flow. Whatever makes her happy.
Yes, I am the model boyfriend.
So we go into the convenience store. My gf buys like $20.00 worth of of $5.00 scratchers and I went ahead and bought one $20.00 ticket as I like to go for the bigger prizes. We continued our day shopping, eating out and what have you.
Later, We arrived back home. We go inside with our newest treasure in hand. We place to the piece near by us in the great room. A little while later my gf scratches her 4 tickets off and she is kind of excited. She comes and looks me up in the house. I could tell that she was really happy. She said guess what? I am like what? She said you know that statue that you bought me? I was like yeah? What about it? She informed me that she just won $100.00 on one of her scratcher tickets. Now to me a $100.00 is not a real big deal as I am sure that it is not to most of you reading this. So I continued to be the model boy friend and told her that was great and congrats her on her recent win. She said excitedly that one ticket paid for the statue. So that was cool. She was happy and I was happy that she was happy. So in essence I guess that makes us one big happy family I suppose.
Anyway.....Later that night.....I kind of got to thinking about that statue again. I still had not scratched off my $20.00 ticket yet. So I figured ohh well now is as good as time as any I suppose. I sat down to scratch the ticket off and nothing.....nothing.....nothing....(BTW - I scratch my tickets off from bottom to the top) I like to mix things up that way and not be cliche. Then all of a sudden I got this CASH symbol. With the CASH symbol one wins all of the prizes that is on the ticket. I was like hmmmm....That is cool.
I will take an extra $500.00 for $20.00 any day I can get it.
I told my gf about it and she was like see I told you that the statue is working already.
Whether it be a quincy dink or just plain luck it is still a neat story and I thought that I would share it with all here that find it interesting and or funny.
My gf was so excited about her little win and the statue that she wanted to go back to the antique mall the next day to tell them that the statue really did work. So we went back to the antique mall to share the story with the clerks that sold us the piece. They were amazed at the story and further amazed at the proof in the pudding. Needless to say my gf turned her winning scratcher in already on the way home for the cash so I did not get a chance to scan her ticket in. I held on to my winning ticket for further proof.
