I didn't follow any of this, but you'd have to live in a cave not to have heard of her.

This is a textbook example of how the press loves to build someone up and then tear them down. They sell on the way up and sell on the way down. Usually, it's a longer trip, but given the short time frame involved in the competition, they compressed the duration to the time allotted.

I don't watch this show, i only caught a bit of it last night. I didn't realize that Susan Boyle was some kind of house hold name, even in the States. I know you have American idol, but don't you have a America's got talent show?

I'm with Clem on this one. Maybe living in the UK actually made this easier to avoid.
I had heard the name but never watched the show and seem to have avoided it without even trying.

I don't watch this show, i only caught a bit of it last night. I didn't realize that Susan Boyle was some kind of house hold name, even in the States. I know you have American idol, but don't you have a America's got talent show?

America's Got Talent is not that popular here in the States...it's completely overshadowed by American Idol.

However...the past winners of America's Got Talent do get rewarded quite handsomely...with one million dollars in cash prize...it's much higher than Britain's prize.

They also get great gigs...this past winner...Terry Fator...aside from his one million bucks...has just signed a permanent gig as a headliner at the Mirage in Las Vegas...and insiders say it's worth millions...

"On May 13, 2008 it was announced that Terry had signed a five year deal to perform nightly at The Mirage Casino and Resort in Las Vegas. He will replace headliner Danny Gans and the theatre will be renamed the Terry Fator Theatre. Reportedly the deal is worth an astounding $100 million with an option to extend another five years making the entire deal worth over $200 million. This would be one of the largest entertainment deals in Las Vegas history. He reported that his first act there will be on February 14, 2009."

But that's the thing...she IS a carnival act, lol...

The whole shtick about Susan Boyle is that she's not the best-looking person in the world...her ugly-duckling look combined with a decent voice...is what brought up all this frenzy about her...that was the selling point. But if you close your eyes..and just listen to her voice...she's ok...but she's no Celine Dion...that's for damn sure.

True talent...Terry Fator even does Etta james for crying out loud, lol...
