    --- mustn't ---

    I hate the word mustn't

The only time it's ever used is on hack written TV shows and movies

Nobody say's "mustn't" in real life

    Thanks for reading

Yeah, mostly old people use it when their trying to offer some sort of lesson.

"One mustn't forget to put on ones coat, or they might catch a cold."

I don't care for the use of "one" in that context either.

"One must always remember to keep track of ones money" or whatever. It sounds very dated.

Ooops. I HAVE used that before, explaining things to my kids. I guess I'm old. I would say, "You musn't do that!"

              My Aunt did that. Ouch.

I like it I would rather say that than "must not".
                I also like Isn't.

Another word I don't like is "should". I always replace it with "could"

"you better not" sounds a lot better than "mustn't"

                      example ....

                      You better not go ......

                      You mustn't go ......

Mustn't sounds like a word George Lucas would use in Star Wars movies

Isn't "musn't" basically an English (UK) term or a hoight-toity term?

It would make sense to use the word in a STAR WARS movie (as Mike
referenced) 'cause they have a lot "cultured" speakers in it...and it
seems like a good word for Threepio even (he's got that "hoity-toity: thing going!)

"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris Mannix
