Hey,
Declan James Johnson was born this morning at 1:07 am. He is my third child and my first boy. He was 9 lbs 12 oz and 21.5 inches long. Mom was in labor for just over 4 1/2 hours after having her water broken - she was 41 1/2 weeks along.
I wish as of this writing that I could say everything is well, but it is not. When he was born he was limp and not breathing, although he had a good heartbeat. Neurologically he was very poor. His condition improved dramatically over the first 12 hours, almost to completely normal, and his beginning bloodwork profiles all look good. However, he had a small seizure at 2:40 this afternoon and another at 4:15. CT is all normal, and EEG and MRI are scheduled for the next few days. They have started him on phenobarbitol (a very common anti-seizure drug). He is not being allowed to nurse, as they are not sure if there might be oxygen deprivation to the intestines, and will probably not start feeding orally for the next 24 to 48 hours.
Needless to say, I am holding it together by a thread, mostly to keep my wife sane and intact. I know that many of you have written in the past with your own child horror stories, and that this wonderful group of guys have come together to support and comfort. I am now humbly asking for that help. Please keep us in your prayers. I will check up on the boards occasionally, but he will probably be in the NICU for the next week or two, so please know that I am reading and thanking God for any posts even if I do not formally reply.
