about by journalists and sold by the papers, etc.
"Nice things" "Success stories" "Feel good yarns"

Dave is on the money here. I have had endless arguments with friends of mine about "the media". I doubt they even fully understand how broad that is or what that really means. I took some classes in Communications Arts & Sciences in College so I know a bit about this. The truth is sucess in TV is measured in ratings, ratings = people, same as in printed tabloids and newspapers, sales = people, and if they werent all tuning in no one would be serving Farrah up on a silver platter. I've been so tuned out of this story, I had not even heard she was terminal. I have not avoided this story but it's just not something I look for.

I think the media over covers everything for the next big story. Everything get's blown up. However....

We blame the media. It's not the media, it's the audience. It's US. If we didn't watch it, it wouldn't be there. There would be no value in sponsoring it, so there would be no money made. We silently DEMAND sensationalism, will only respond to it, but then are outraged when it reaches a certain point. The success of "reality" television is a perfect example.

So really, the media is just giving us what we want, what we insist on. If we didn't respond to it, they wouldn't do it.

Exactly.........I heard and read about it the first time. I don't feed into it anymore. I won't watch or read anything else. The media are the Dealers we the public are the addicts. They just sell us what we want for the moment.

As much as it pains me to say/type this Dave hit the nail right on the head. It is absolutely amazing at how many people in this world actually do enjoy viewing/reading this kind of coverage. Everything in the media these days is about sex and violence. Apparently that type of stuff is what the majority of the people really want to see. I do not necessarily agree with it or condone it myself. However, The ratings do speak for themselves. Whatchya gonna do?

i have sympathy for her and her family, but enough is enough, the media needs to stop this whole thing and let her pass in peace(if that is the case)....then when it's over....they can bring it up again...but right now..its on all the time, seems like....
