Dodge Ram Truck vs Infiniti SUV!!!

I was garage selling today. I parked my Dodge truck across the street from a sale. As I was walking back to my truck, I see a guy in an Infiniti SUV backing up. There was another SUV parked on the opposite side of the street from my truck, so I could only see the cab of my truck.

I hear a loud crash and see my truck jump forward several feet. My jaw hit the ground. I walk around the parked truck to see the "damage" to my truck. You cannot even tell he hit me except for the small scuffs on the bumper cover. Most of it came off when I wiped it with my hand.

The back of the Infiniti was smashed all to heck. He has at least $2000 damage to the car!!!

I basically just laughed at him, and said, "That's what you get for buying an over-priced piece of Japanese junk!"

Yet the American cars companies are on the brink of extinction...and not the Japanese.

I guess so. If a rolling bumper to bumper hit does this much damage to an Infiniti, I guess the Japanese are doing good. Their cars get one small bump and need to replace a ton of stuff!!! They are creating their own market by making vehicles that cannot take a hit.

I wouldn't buy a Japanese vehicle because I couldn't fit my big American body in it.

They are Hec'...but the media seems to be having too much fun poking their fingers at the domestics and laughing.

The Japanese companies are doing little better. Toyota lost almost 8 billion in the first quarter of this year alone...Thats worse than GM....almost worse than GM and Chrysler combined.

Honda lost 4.5 billion. Nissan didnt disclose their losses yet (at least I havent seen them anyways), but they are tightening their partnership with Renault to cut costs.

The Japanese Gov't used to subsidize their auto makers costs...They stopped two months ago due to the economic turndown....and ever since the Japanese companies have been reporting the same losses every other car maker in the world is suffering. Toyota did approach the Canadian and US gov't about financial help. The Americans told them to take a hike...Canada hasnt officially responded yet.

I follow the car biz pretty closely, and it really pees me off when I see the stuff the "major media" reports versus what they overlook. It REALLY pees me of when I see them blow things out of proportion. For example, Tom LaSorda recently reported the companies Chrysler approached last year to help them build a compact car (because Daimler fired all their medium and small car platform engineers when they took over). The press erroneously reported this as companies Chrysler had approached, asking them to buy parts or all of Chrysler.
GM has had a lot of the same kind of negetive press.....It's disgusting!

If I remember right, you've got the same year truck as my dodge, an 03' Hemi right? The tubing and reinforcements on the rear bumper on these things are made like a battleship! The 04 and up Fords have this too. Glad to here you took out an Infiniti! Even if it was unknowingly.

I had a similar incident last year. Young girl rear ended my old Dakota at a red light with her brand new Accord. It messed my bumper up, but the Accord was unrecognizable from the A pillars forward. Crumpled up like an accordion. I drove home, she was towed.
She was only 18 and didnt want her insurance to go up so she said she would pay for it out of her own pocket if I just got it fixed. I tokk one look at her car, knew she was screwed anyways, and told her to forget it. A $25.00 bumper at an auto wrecker, a can of paint, and a half hours work had me back as good as new. I dont think a can of paint would help her!

Exactly. Since the economic downturn, Toyota has been focusing on cutting costs from everything from office supplies to utilities, and promise no layoffs - while GM and others are laying off and closing plants like crazy. Don't tighten your belts - just cut the cords!!! Toyota is responsible for over 40,000 jobs in the U.S and Canada and growing. Don't hate on them just because they know how to run their business better.

Don't get me wrong, I own two Fords...I love both my truck and Mustang.

But I have to admit...American auto companies concentrated too much on trucks and SUV's...while neglecting cars. Aside from Mustangs, Camaros, Corvettes, Vipers, and Chargers/Challengers...the rest were pure junk.

I miss the muscle car era of the 60s and 70s.
