Va-Vo Portuguese for Grandmother. She was the coolest person and the greatest cook. My Dad's mom died 3 months after I was born so that side never materialized. I'm the oldest of all the grandkids so I was the only one she ever got to see from her 6 kids. Lost both of them to cancer.
I didn't know my father's mother she passed away before I was born, so I only had one grandmother and I called her Mamaw. Both grandfathers I called Papaw.
My son picked this up and refers to his grandparents as such, but my daughter is calling her grandmother "Me-me".
My maternal grandmother was Gram or Gramma...I'm not sure I ever addressed my paternal grandmother in any way...we weren't close and there was a language barrier.
