It has recently came to my attention that some are having some issues with the board running a bit slow. I was just curious as to know who is running at what speeds. I post a lot of graphics intense picture threads at times so I am not sure if some members are actually getting the benfit of seeing them or not due to their connection speeds. I myself am running at high speed and I notice no major slow downs as of yet. What method of speed are you running at and does graphic intense picture threads bog you down at all?

Dial- Up
I can't view Flicker, U-Tube or half that other crap that gets posted here with links,.. But the Board seems to always be cool for me.... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.

Hmmmm....
Dialup. I'm a Luddite.

I CAN; but I usually start it up, have a sandwich, watch some tv and come back in a bit.
The only problem I have is from a friend, who's a HUGE computer nerd, and sends me stuff. He sent me an animation program once that took 30 hours to download.

Maybe some day? By then there just may be something even better than high speed. As hard as that is to believe. I can remember using a 300 baud modem pre IBM days many, many moons ago. Then a 1200 baud modem finally came out. It was said that this was the fastest speed that could be achieved over a phone line. For that time going from 300 baud to 1200 baud was well like going from dial up to high speed. THEN they came out with 2400 baud modem. To make a long story short this continued onto 4800 baud, 9600 baud and so on (you get the picture) until present day. They are still saying the same thing. "This is the fastest speed that we can and ever will achieve". Yeah right. I cannot wait to see what they come out with next.
Hopefully, it will be something that everyone can use and benefit from. I seriously doubt that no one out there thoroughly enjoys the dial experience, but whatcha gonna do. In the mean time I will keep my fingers crossed for you.Enjoy what you like, and let others enjoy what they like. (C) Azrak 2009

Always great for D/Ling huge files and videos though. I hope to see that technology over here in the USA some time in the near future. In the mean time though I will not hold my breath.

That's what those kinds of speeds are great for, downloading big files. People always talk about (legal) downloads of HD quality movies replacing physical media like Blu-ray discs. That will not happen anytime soon with our download speeds. The US and Canada do not currently have the infrastructure to handle this kind of traffic involving huge amounts of data. Japan and South Korea for example, are smaller, densely populated countries, so it's wasn't too difficult for them to update nearly every area with fiber optic cables. In North America, we are talking about huge areas, so like you say, upgrading our infrastructure won't be happening anytime soon (especially since the governments and cable/telephone companies involved seem unwilling to invest in this, no one wants to pay for all the work that would need to be done)Last edited by cjefferys; May 14, '09, 12:34 AM.Comment
