Star Trek - Burger King - Deal or no Deal?

Today I was offered a really cool Star Trek display.....For $$$$ I was just curious as to what one should actually pay for one? I am NOT looking to flip this or resell it. This will be going into my personal collection.

What would you consider a fair market price if you could buy one right now?

Here is a pic of the display in question.

Enjoy what you like, and let others enjoy what they like. (C) Azrak 2009

Considering it will probably be thrown away at the end, I'm guessing the BK manager is trying to make some pocket money.

I seriously doubt that any of these will get thrown away. Unless of course they are seriously trashed from the kiddies fingering them up in the stores. Having said that I feel that some one is going to profit from it no matter which way you look at it. I know that there are some serious Star Trek collectors out there and they will no doubt pay for these to have them in their collections. I myself personally just want it because it looks cool. I just have no idea as to what a fair price would be to buy it. ????

I'd get one in a heartbeat because it does look cool. I've asked around here but they are all spoken for.

I think it depends on the manager of the store you get it from. If he just wants to get rid of it $25-50 isn't bad. If he's thinking ebay prices then that's another story.

Thanks for your input on this so far. I would happily buy them all day long for that price if I could. I will post the price later on in this thread. Right now I just want to get a feel for what others think. As it is now the guy appears to be seeking eBay prices and or beyond. Being that these are so new and so cool everyone is going to try and cash in on them no doubt. Once again good old supply in demand sets in. I feel as if the most of these will be spoken for and will no doubt end up on Evil Bay with the words RARE and HTF right in the auction description. After all that is where the most of the store displays ends up eventually. Only time will tell.

One ended yesterday on eBay for $222:

BURGER KING STAR TREK STANDEE DISPLAY + 4 GLASSES NIB - eBay (item 350197846934 end time May-10-09 18:55:34 PDT)

Take into account it was still in the original container and not assembled. As well as the fact that right now is obviously when demand for these things is at its highest among hardcores.

I was going to say $50 would be fair for it.

Otherwise, if you really want one, wait a year or two and you probably would be able to buy them for less on Ebay.

                My guess

It will go down drastically in price once all the dust has settled for the new movie.

They use to sell these for $100-$300 when the old Trek movies came out.

Today, you can't give them away

Cool, Thanks guys for all of your input on this. I was ready to pull the trigger at $200.00 cash today. I guess I got caught up in all the hype. Glad I decided to wait and listen to your replies of common sense. I would have definitely paid $200.00 for the display had it been still sealed MIB. That would have been worth it to me considering I almost paid that for one that was open and in lesser condition than new.

Not to dis the piece or the new movie, but my first reaction to it was that it reminded me waaaaay too much of the New Voyages.

This is very true. You make an excellent point here. I would much rather have new MIB than a loose used display. Of course let us not forget about the shipping charge here though. So now we are talking about another $50.00 to have that rascal shipped. Still not bad for a NEW display if one was a really die hard fan of the new movie I suppose.

I think that you are right on this. As with anything new people go nuts. It will be best for me to probably wait and let the dust settle a while. I will pick one up later for much less when everyone becomes sick of them taking up space in their houses. By then the people that own these will be buying whatever else is new and "HOT" at the time. They will need room to store and more money to buy said stuff eventually. Gets them every time.

I believe that you are right Mike. I will wait it out. I would much rather have an original Star Trek display than this new one at this price that I was offered. One great thing about there is no hurry here with the new stuff. I actually need to wait until my new building is finished anyway. The temptation kind of naws at me some time to have it first. I keep trying to remind myself that in the end who really cares who had it first. It is all the matter of who owns it in the end that matters the most.

I collect original movie posters and notice this happens all the time. The first LOTR poster with Frodo holding the ring (the ring is double sided so when the back light shines through...it really lights up) must have selling for $200-$300 when the movie was out and people were going crazy for it.

I simply waited a few years and bought it for around $30-$40 I believe...I can't remember exactly but it was about a 1/10 of the original price. I also made sure it was real and not a reproduction.

UPDATE: I returned back to the particular BK store this week to pick up more toys and check out the current status of the toys and glasses. I was promised the big long poster a couple of weeks back. I went in and not only got the poster that I inquired of I also got the friggin whole display to for FREE. I really wasn't expecting it to be gave to me. The Manager is really super nice to me and a HOTTIE to, but you did not hear ME say/type that.

This is still all part of my great week that I have had so far. Not to brag or anything....but I have really been on a roll of sorts here lately. I just hope that this lucky streak continues and never stops.

Now if I could only get some darn old spock BK toys I am pretty much set.
