I caught the Scrubs finale the other night and I was really sad to see it go. Tho the jokes are still funny, Scrubs sacrificed their serious side and relevancy some seasons ago to up the craziness factor of the show, (maybe the 4th or 5th season-example: JD's hissy-fit over not getting the Chief Residency position and becoming the co-chief; a scene played for laughs but seemingly out-of-character). The show has been at the mercy of other forces over the past few years, NBC cut last season short, a writers strike conspired to cut it even shorter,( one episode was listed for last season but never got made), and they switched networks-resulting in another short season.
The plan to introduce a new supporting cast doesn't seem to have worked as many of the newer characters have not caught on. Tho in recent years Scrubs seems to have sacrificed many secondary characters it could have held on to for just such a transition. In a way that's comforting because it would be hard to see the show go on without the original cast. Zach Braff has wanted to bolt for 2 years and Dr. Cox, Turk, Janitor and Carla could not come back as the actors have all already done other pilots and/or are moving on to other things.
It was a touching ending. A nice hallway scene appears at the end reminding us of all the people who have passed thru Sacred Heart and sadly all the underused and unresolved storylines that could have been: what happened to Tasty Coma Wife, ( Amy Smart), or JD's drug addicted co-worker /love interest from season 1, ( Elizabeth Bogush). What of the female "Dr. Cox" Chief of Surgeon who dissapeared after season 3? People who lived and people who died. Hints of what was to come in the characters future were hinted at and thankfully nothing too permanent occurred. Maybe 10 years down the road they can have a reunion show.
