Favorite Moments in Rock & Roll History

What are your favorite moments in Rock in Roll History?

While driving in my car today and listening to a classic rock station, "The Doors - Light My Fire" came on the radio. This reminded me of their performance on the Ed Sullivan show where they were asked not to use the lyrics "girl we couldn't get much higher". Jim Morrison went ahead and sang the song just the way it was written, much to the dismay of the show executives and The Doors' next 6 scheduled performances on the show were cancelled. Here is the youtube clip of that classic performance. Notice the grins on the faces of Robby and Ray.

YouTube - THE DOORS, LIGHT MY FIRE (live at the Ed Sullivan show)

For comparison, it's also interesting to see Val Kilmer (as Jim Morrison) portray a very different version of this event from the Oliver Stone Movie "The Doors". NOTE: Be advised some "adult language" is used this clip.

The only thing that comes to mind as the greatest thing that happened in Rock N Roll history is the first appearance of the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. The ratings and the views at that time speak for itself.

I would love to have been there when Elvis met the Beatles. They played some music together during the meeting, but no recordings were made and there are no pictures of them hanging out.

In the crazy world of Jim Morrison, that kind of stuff was common. He did tend to go too far though, which ultimately led to his early demise. The Doors are my favorite band of all time. I started acquiring their studio cuts in 1982 and had them all by 1985. I'm thrilled every time they bring out something I haven't seen/heard. Totally awesome and opened the doors so to speak to me listening to all the 60's music during a time when rap and heavy metal were the norm, which led to my interest in other types of music. With that band you have to read between the lines. They were very deep. (my tagline comes from morrison)

Here's a couple links of non doors / doors related recordings. The second is original from 1928 and creepy.

I posted this before. This song is one of my favs..and the remake is very well done.

Im going to get alot of flak for this, but the Beatles are the most overated band in R and R history.
Having said that, there are so many great R and R moments, We could sit up all nite drinking beer and this conversation could last the whole time.
My fave ? When a member of the all girl grunge band, and I think this was at the reading festival in around 92, got sick of a guy yelling sexual remarks out the crowd, so she pulled her tampon out and flung it on the guy.

Not really rockn roll, but it's still hot. How about when Brittany and Madonna kissed?

And Jim Morrison was a huge Elvis fan. -per the book "No One Here get's Out Alive"

                        Yes, Elvis is awesome.

As for Doors. This video introduced me to them in the early 80's. Back then it was called "A Tribute to Jim Morrison". They are calling it "No One Here Get's Out Alive".

But good viewing. I believe all parts are here. This was a guy was crazy genius.

I guess its more a pop moment than rock moment,At 17 we saw Madonna in concert. She had a phone booth on stage where she would change outfits in.They would drop a small curtain and light her from behind so you could see her strip down naked. At 17 nothing beat a naked Madonna. She but on a great show, her music was much better back then.
