Planet Of The Apes TV show DVD

I just got the POTA TV Show DVDs. I have not seen these since they were on TV so many years ago. What great memories, I am going to be up for a while watching them.

John, I love the TV series--they are my guilty pleasures. They totally remind me of my childhood. They are cheesy but great.

My favorite is the Deception. And the last one, with Carsia.

"The Trap" was really the best one for me, besides the premiere episode. Truely good, intelligent conflict, Mark Lenard and Jim Naughton were in top form here.

I remember watching it premiere back in '74. Couldn't understand back then that while it was popular for the kids, why the ratings weren't there..? I know the adults weren't pulled into it as much at the time...

Still a favorite, more so than the later movies.

I watched the TV show as a kid, and when I first watched the DVD set, I was happily surprised how well the show held up for me. It's still very entertaining and fun to watch. The cartoon on the other hand, not so much....

Our elementary school used to show movies in the cafeteria on a Friday night (typical Disney fare...), it was the "place to be". But I was always torn between going there and staying home to watch the Planet of the Apes. I didn't have to choose between the two for long....they stopped showing the movies shortly after the TV series was cancelled. Double Doh!

It was a bad decision making the series in the 70's, when story arcs and conclusions were almost unheard of.
The show didn't and couldn't go anywhere in that climate.

Today, I think the same show would do a lot better if allowed develope.

I have always loved the show. I picked up the initial DVD release 8 or 10 years ago. Still holds up. I always thought it would have been better if they left humans as dumn mutes except for maybe hidden pockets of civilization that Pete and Alan could have come across while exploring. That was what lacked in all of the original movies. They just did not explore this strange new world enough.

This show has always been special to me. I remember watching it Friday nights and was so bummed when it got canceled. I remember the "movies" that they cobbled together from the episodes and used to show on Saturday & Sunday afternoons.
I picked up this set when they first released it a few years back. In fact I have two sets now since it also came as part of the Ultimate POTA Collection.

Now, my one HUGE pet peeve with this entire series. Don't get me wrong, I still love it and will for all time but this ONE point nearly ruined the whole thing for me and still bugs me to this day.

In the first 5 minutes of the very first episode they totally disregarded the whole reason why Apes became the Apes that took over Earth (what a way to kick things off!).
There was a DOG in the show!!!!
Dogs & cats all died off (Conquest) and that's why humans took Apes as pets which caused their evolution into the Apes that took over the Earth.
                              How could this have happened????

My own theory: (in order to ease my mind and justify the mistake) Not all cats & dogs died but nearly all of them did. There's always a percentage of people who are immune to plagues, etc so maybe a few cats & dogs did survive but since they were now rare, people went for the plentiful Apes instead. So this dog could be a descendant of one of the few dogs that survived the plague?
