I met this woman last fall at a local tavern

It was at a local bar. She was there with her two sisters (one tends bar there) and her father who is in his mid 70's. Anyway it was a Tuesday night and my friend and I stopped there to have a beer. And I noticed this woman looked different, yet familiar, because she was the one a few years earlier who was featured on our local news because her husband had shot her in the face with a shotgun during a domestic violence incident. I remember being floored at the fact of her saying she might consider taking him back while interviewed in the news story back a few years. I couldn't believe that then.

But that night there were a few people there I knew and they introduced me to the family. After meeting her, she was such a nice person talking to her. I told her she was a very beautiful person. Her sister told my friend and I that she couldn't see too well because she was partially blinded.

Well to my surprise, this is her.

When I met her she appeared as seen in the lower left. I am rather private and would have never posted something like this had it not been for the fact that she is now America's first face transplant recipient. And I am thrilled to have met her. Such a nice person and never deserving of what happened. That monster who did it deserved the death penalty but only got 7 years!

I read something about this yesterday. Poor woman. I can't believe the POS only got 7 years. It should have been 700 years.

That beast should have gotten the chair for what he did. She's so incredibly brave.

Well thats alot like that one case many years ago. This guy raped a girl somewhere in the midwest and hacked her arms off. (Obviously to kill her)

Luckily she escaped and found help before she bled out but they could not reattach her arms.

This POS only got a few years ONLY because she ended up living.

Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
              Lo they do call me.
They bid me take my place among them.

Let's not focus our attention to the monster who did this...let's focus instead on this strong and brave woman...going through all those surgeries...couldn't taste nor smell for years...she's an inspiration to us all.

Bravo to her new face...good for her...and hope to all the people who are disfigured.

I just seen the new her yesterday on the news. Absolutely unbelievable the hell that this lady suffered. That guy must have hated her really, really bad to do what he did to her. Too bad that he did not get a more harsh sentence. What a joke!

I could not even begin to grasp what it would be like to not be able to chew or even smell food for the length of time that she had to endure. It is truly amazing that this woman is even alive today.

having been born with a cleft lip and palate ... I know on a mild scale what those operations on one's face feel like ... she's very brave. and given she has a long ways to go ... but you can see that in time she will be able to walk down the street without those "looks" she must have had before this transplant

I didn't ask but from what I remember, it was one of those murder suicides gone wrong. He shot her and then himself. But I don't think he is nearly as bad. Just terrible though I couldn't imagine. I hope she continues to recover with the new face.

When they were talking about a woman in the Cleveland clinic having this done I had no idea that it would be her. But I do remember last fall that her sister said they were working on getting her a nose. I was thinking prosthetics though. I had no idea. But she was a very nice lady and liked to talk. I'm happy to have met her.

I just read today where some 21yr old ***hole in Florida threw an 18 month old baby out of a car window killing him/her. It was his 17 year old girlfriend's child and he wasn't the father. That type of news makes me break up. I have a pretty tough shell but that really gets to me inside. I wish that kind of stuff didn't happen. It is just so senseless.
