Bay Area apeheads: 1968 Planet of the Apes in Antioch

    Sunday May 31, 2009 @ 2:00pm
    Planet of the Apes (1968)

Take this announcement with a grain of salt, the screen is kind of small, and you can't eat popcorn or soda in the theater....WTH..... but you can drink water and eat candy there for some reason...

Anyway, the recently restored El Campanil Theatre will be showing the original "Planet of the Apes"

    B-Movies at the El Camp!

I remember going to my local small town movie theater back in the mid 70's to see Planet of the Apes on the big screen. I can't recall if it was a weekend or summer weekday matinee but there was maybe 6 people in there. LOL.
Must've been some re-release or a summer kids movie series?

What kinda movie theater doesn't allow popcorn and soda????????

I would never go to a movie theater that does not allow popcorn and sodas...that's just un-traditional and un-American.

        I'll be there...and I don't mind. I am a chimp, after all.

Ice cream...in a theater! That is soooo yummy. I love watching movies and eating ice cream. I do that when I go to the neighborhood theater. I usually have the coffee flavoured ice cream.

The best theater that I've ever been in was back in the 90's when I was in Biloxi mississipi. They served beer and long island ice teas

I think they served beer at the Paramount when they showed Planet of the Apes there for the 30th anniversary. I don't drink beer but I recall that beer smell when we sat down to watch the movie.

Here here! That is kinda extreme.

BTW...Comcast OnDemand has all the ape films in the Movieplex section.

Awesome!!!! Looks like you all had fun. How was the turnout?

I checked out the theater's website and they have done a beautiful job with the restoration. Very cool!

a local place by me does a Sci Fi Drivin sometime sin the summer and a few years back they showed Planet of the Apes. There's just something so cool about seeing a movie like this on the big screen. Your costume is awesome Jessica.

The sad part is removing the makeup and checking back into reality. Hec is right--I DO need drugs!!
