What ever happened to Arbor Day ?

Growing up in the 70's, Arbor Day used to be a lot bigger then it is now.

Every year in school we'd plant tree's and make a big event of it.

Seem's like "Earth Day" killed Arbor Day lately.

Anybody else remember when Arbor Day used to be popular ?

Mike, you truly are a store of 70's memories!

Even though Earth Day started in 1970, I do think it has taken off and pretty much replaced Arbor Day. Where Arbor Day was about trees, Earth Day covers it all. And as the environment has become more of a relevamt issue, Earth Day seems to reflect those concerns a bit more.

However, I still haven't seen a Cahrlie Brown special about Earth Day

In school, we'd have a big event.
The whole school would meet out in the front lawn.
The principal would make a speach and we'd plant a tree.
In front of the tree they'd put a little metal sign ...
The signs would say "Arbor Day 1973" and so on.
          It was pretty neat.

We used to get little pine tree seedlings to bring home when I was in grade school. None of them ever grew though when we replanted them.

My daughter is singing in an Earth Day concert this evening with her 1st grade class.

In many ways, Arbor Day's never left, sir. It's always offered the same high-quality meals at competitive prices
