Forgive my ignorance, but what's "TAPS"?

I can understand your non-belief in "ghosts". After all, there are a LOT of sensational misconceptions floating around out there on the subject.

But it may interest you to know that science it catching up to the haunting phenomenon.

There is strong empirical evidence that suggests that "ghosts" (or apparitions) are actually electro-magnetic "playback" of the electrical residue of a deceased individual (electrical brain and muscle impulses and the such.)

This electromagnetic "stuff" can sometimes get left behind at a location, and can randomly "playback" (like a recording) with the proper electromanetic "triggers" (atmospheric conditions, the use of certain electrical appliances, etc.)

Now knowing all of this doesn't really prevent me from getting the "willies" whenever I hear stories like yours
I creeped myself out as well. I have a few lights on now due to my own "willies". It sounds contradictory, but I'm a big fan of Ghost Hunters and I am fascinated by the subject of paranormal activity even though I don't believe in ghosts. I have heard of residual haunting and maybe that's what I've experienced. But I really don't know and probably never will. I have even experienced "phantom smells" if that's the right term. But I don't want to type up those experiences right now since I just sent them to a local TAPS affiliate to get their input on the experience.

This will sound weird, but I don't believe in ghosts, and yet I have seen and heard strange things. Odd things have happened to me. The house I grew up in had a full basement and the stairs were very creaky. You could always tell when someone was walking up or down the stairs. It was impossible to walk up or down the stairs without them creaking. So one night I am trying to go to sleep on the couch. The basement door was in the kitchen, just on the other side of the fridge. My brother lived downstairs. I was lying there in the silence of the house at about 2 am trying to relax and go to sleep. I was looking at the ceiling and just thinking about my day when I hear someone walking up the stairs. You could literally tell which step someone was on by the creaks, so I hear who I believe to be my brother coming up the stairs and so I lean off the couch and stare into the kitchen, waiting to see him come out past the fridge. After the top step creaked, he didn't come out so I waited for about 30 seconds and thought, "Why is he just standing in the doorway?" So I got up and went into the kitchen and walked past the fridge to see an empty doorway at the top of the stairs. I went back and laid on the couch and tried to go to sleep, but I was creeped out. I had heard the steps creak as if someone was coming up, but no creaks of someone going down.

A few years later, I had taken over the basement after my brother moved out. My parents room was above my basement room. I was watching tv and I kept hearing the floor above me creaking as if someone in my parents room was walking back and forth. The house was old and even from downstairs you could tell where someone was walking upstairs just by the creaks in the floorboards. So it sounded just like someone above me was walking back and forth as if they were pacing. It was irritating because it was actually drowning out the tv. Odd thing was, my parents always went to sleep at about 11pm and it was around 2:30am. I remember the time because I checked the clock and thought it odd that my parents were pacing upstairs at that hour. I got so irritated at the sound that I muted the tv. As soon as the tv was muted, the sound stopped. I thought at first that it was a sound on the tv but when I muted it, a commercial for a local car lot was on. I unmuted the tv and in a few moments the sound returned. I tolerated it for a moment, but after the show I was watching came back on it began to bother me so I muted the tv again to try and figure out what the sound was. Again the sound stopped as soon as the tv was muted. Maybe this experience was the tv but I couldn't reason out why the tv would sound like my ceiling (my mom's floor) was creaking when the show I was watching had no such sounds in it. The next day I asked my parents if they were pacing the floor and they said no.

The most recent thing to happen was here at my new residence in southern California. We are living in a mobile community and there are a few older people living near us so it is nice and quiet here. One night I was going out to the post office to check the mail since I was waiting on some Mego-Mail and hadn't had a chance during the day to check the PO box. So I get ready to back out, I check my mirrors, etc., and as I let my foot off the brake I see this little old lady in a white nightgown (sounds cliche but it's true) walking behind me. I stomped on the brake and looked back and she wasn't there so I jumped out to see if I hit her. I didn't feel a bump but since I had seen her and now she was gone I was sure I hit her. I went to the back of my car and nothing. I looked at the road thinking she had just walked on but she was nowhere to be seen and nothing she could have been hidden by such as a tree, etc. A month later I'm in the kitchen late one night about 12am and out of the corner of my eye I see someone walk past the kitchen doorway. Since my mother in law is staying with us I think it's her. She gets restless and often gets up after going to bed at night. I walked into the living room and my wife is at the computer where she was when I went into the kitchen. I asked her, "Did your mom come in here?" My wife says no. Then I thought back and realized that the person I saw walk past the doorway looked like they were wearing a white nightgown just like the old lady I had seen a month earlier. I told my wife about it and she seemed uninterested. But she knows I don't believe in ghosts. I don't know what I saw but I still don't believe in ghosts so I'm not scared. It just makes me wonder what I saw. Twice. I'm sure it was the same thing on both occasions although I don't know what it was.

I think that you spend too many hours here at The Museum and you watch TV in between posts here way too much. (kidding!)

That is some pretty wild stuff. It would really freak some people out. I would stay there up until I heard a voice "GET OUT". They would not have to tell me twice at that point. I would be gone with the wind my friend.

It could have been worse I suppose. He could have referred to us as Hector would say "mosquito droppings".

never had any supernatural experiences but my sister swears she has a civil war ghost in her house. She lives in Virginia so I am sure there were many battles in the area and she swears to have woken up more than once to see a confederate soldier standing at the foot of her bed. I don"t know, I've spent many weekends there and never seen or sensed anything odd.
I believe in the possibility of ghosts or apparitions but am waiting to see proof.

I had an astronomy professor in college refer to us as stardust but in the sense that we have certain minerals found in our bodies that are not found anywhere on Earth.

Because of my own personal faith; I do believe we all have souls seperate from our bodies.

    It actually supports my theory:
    1. They make junk for us to eat.
    2. We eat it.
    3. It ends up as waste, that is recycled.
    4. They make more junk from it.
    5. We eat it again.

So Boo exists, but only as a a continuous recycling of crap.....

    OK, seriously.
This is how I explain ghosts. Pay attention, there might be a quiz afterwards.

All matter, living or dead, is made up out of basically the same "building blocks". It's the way that they are arranged, that eventually makes a human, a tree, a rock, etc.
When something dies, when an inanimate object degrades, all this matter returns to its basic form, atoms, molecules, ...
As someone once said: we are all stardust, and that is, to me at least, exactly so.

Now, what if, when we become "dust", and our building blocks fall apart, some connections still remain? When a rock pulverizes, most is dust, but some bigger parts remain. In this way, connections that "were", get integrated into new connections, that "will be". Like a new car that uses some old parts that are still good.

To me, supernatural occurences are not ghosts that say "BOO", but remnants of those old connections that still echo and float around in the space around us. Some of these connections are stronger than others, giving a "bigger" echo.
Like someone said here: like a radio signal that was sent into space, and is still bouncing around there long after transmission was originally made.

To me, it also explains re-incarnation. Some of those "old blocks" from people long gone, get re-used into new people, hence recollections of lives past. Hence four year old kids playing the piano like Mozart.

I think we are indeed just stardust, getting used and re-used time and time again, in new combinations. And some combinations are so strongly linked, that they get incorporated again.

That is the only way I can explain why I have the brain of Einstein, the body of bruce Lee, the face of James Dean, the shaking hips of Elvis Presley,.....
