                The "R" in the circle is a regsistered trade mark Mego might sublet the licence to another company like they did with eagle force

                  I had a similar set when I was a kid, except in black plastic. Same loco, tender and tracks, but with a caboose and maybe another passenger car. I can't help you with the value or origin of your set, but I seem to recall that the locomotive actually produced smoke too!
