Pitcher Mark "The Bird Fidrych dead

Mark "The Bird" Fidrych dead at 54. He was one of my childhood sports heroes. I think I've still got the issue of Dynamite magazine with him on the cover.

Wow, this is a big part of my youth gone. Growing up in SE Michigan and growing up a big baseball/Tigers fan, "The Bird" was a big deal. I stood in line on more than one occasion to get a ball signed. Saw him pitch when I was a kid, although it was in one of his poor outing come back years.

This has been a sad baseball season so far. He was one of the good guys.
            It's all good!

He was one of baseballs unique players and made the game fun to watch on a team that wasn't very good.

But to get pinned under a truck. Sad.

I loved watching The Bird pitch when I was a kid.
I use to enjoy watching him talk to the ball and thinking he was nothing short of being nuts.
                A fun memory for me.

Wow, sad. I saw him pitch in the minors for the Evansville Triplets when I was a kid. Kirk Gibson also played for Evansville.

Details were released today. It appears his clothing got wrapped around a moving part of the truck he was working on and he wound up getting strangled by it.
