    What happens to "non-active members"?

When you check, you'll see that active posters on this forum number about 500. But we have about 2,500 members in total.
I was just wondering, are members that no longer join us (hey, they probably thought we are all crazy here, grown people collecting dolls!) held on indefinitely?
I've been on forums where you have to renew after a while.

Don't get me wrong, they can all stay on forever IMO, but it kind of distorts the big picture.
I'm on a local forum here in Belgium, boasting thousands of members, but they only have about twenty active posters left.

I went M.I.A. here from September 08 to March 09 if that is any real constellation?

At lot of people drift in and out and go inactive for a bit. We leave them be because they do often come back, and as far as the others, who has the time to sort through all those members and checking their last post date to delete the accounts? Ugh!

That's not missing, just temporarily misplaced!

Seriously. I wasn't saying to boot someone off. Sure, they can come back.
I was just looking at the statistics. To me, we have about 500 members, because they actively participate.

Just like I was wondering what the average age of a typical MM member is, what's the ratio between Caucasian, African-American, Hispanic members. How many Europeans we have. Average height, weight,.....
        Just curious....

I'm posting now just to remove the following message from the top of the page.

Hello GlobalObserver it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks, why not take a few moments to ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a conversation with another member in any one of our forums?

I've always been more of a lurker than a poster.

Hmmmm. Instead of having active members just be the ones who "participate", or post in threads; why can't we have the site recognize when a member just surfs the topics and count them as active too? That number might jump higher than 500 if we counted when people just surfed the topics.
