I took a egyptian history class back in high school and got to see this. It was an amazing thing to see. That was over 20 years ago but I still remember alot of it.
I never got to see it. I think by the time it came to NYC 30 years ago, we were already moving to CA! Hopefully I'll get a chance this time.

I wanted to go to the one in the 70s so badly, but alas my family never made it. So I was juiced to see this exhibit. I even flew out to Chicago to see it. So, if this is the same exhibit that was at the Fields Museum in Chicago a couple of years ago, then I would have to say manage your expectations.
The exhibit does not contain the most famous articles as they are too fragile to leave Egypt. Therefore no mummy, sarcophagus or funeral mask. I think it is a bit of a scam that they have the funeral mask on all the brochures, the website and tickets and it is not in the Exhibit!!! You will see 50 objects from his tomb - and the rest of the objects are from his predecessors or relatives.
That said, if you are interested in ancient Egypt - then it is still worth seeing.
I havent seen the Tut Exhibit but 4 years ago an exhibit came to Boston and I think it was entitled the valley of the King's and had alot of Awesome egyptian artifacts , includeing a fully re-built tomb and several mummies and things of that nature. The coolest thing that I saw there and couldnt take my eyes off of was the ROSETTA STONE . It was under armed gaurd which I thought was kind of cool , considering it's importance. Other than that , the exhibit was mediocre.
I just remember being blown away by it when I first saw it in the 70s. I didn't want to leave when it was time to go. I LOVE ancient Egypt...my avatar at Sideshow and the Replica Prop Forum is Queen Nefertiti...so I HAVE to see it.
I took my family to see it in Philadelphia a couple of years ago.
I thought it was fantastic!
True, it doesn't have the actual Gold King Tut mask since Egypt has a law of not allowing it to leave the country since it is considered one of the most if not the most priceless artifact in Egypt.
There are lots of other good stuff though including artifacts from his tomb as well as ancestors as already said.
I liked the layout of the exhibit. Most of the more interesting items were diplayed in glass and you could walk completely around it to see all angles with no ropes preventing you from walking up real close.
I would let the initial hysteria wear down and go on a weekday. I think you are alloted 2 hours maybe to spend in the exhibits and we took our time.
Even though the mask isn't there, I think they do have the two items the mummy has in its hands (one is a staff I think and maybe the other a whip of some type?).
It was amazing to see the amount of items that would be buried with a pharoah.
