    I miss the 70's because:
    1. I could go to school with funky bellbottoms and stripes and plaid and fit in.
    2. Hard Rock music rocked then.
    3. Some relatives that are now gone whom I miss were around.
    4. Cartoons and kids shows were really cool.
    5. KISS was together and rocked!!

    Why I don't miss the 70's:
    1. I now have a computer and my megomuseum friends.
    2. Jimmy Carter is not president now. (NOT a political statement)
    3. I'm no longer forced to get a crew cut, it's now my choice.
    4. Our family car sucked in the 70's, ANY time during the 70's.
    5. Special effects make movies better now, well some movies.

      i do

im 73 born so i was a whipper snapper[just little] back in the them days

i remember summer holidays up the park every day with a giant tractor innertube for the outdoor pool...

stopping off for tip tops and jubilees{frozen ice] at the local shop on the way

the summer holidays seemed to last forever

      bmx bikes

old ladys washing down there front porches with a mop

dapping past the fruit and veg shop and grabbing a sly apple or orange... always had all there produce on the street back then in a cart

being able to play with action man/star wars/6 million dollar man without having to turn on a console

      bogey races down the street

being frightened to death of the local bobby[police man] now kids dont give a damn about anything or anyone

the vintage cars and trucks that used to roll by the house

6 foot snow drifts school shut for a week

the rag and bone man on horse and cart calling out any old iron

      4 sweets for a penny

star wars figures moc for £1.79

      aww the good old days

The seventies were great. Best decade I've been around for so far.
It was the last "real" decade. Maybe the last simple decade too, before computers and technology started creeping in and turning us all into techno zombies. We werent constantly bombarded by bad news all the time either like we are nowadays.
It was a decade where anything and everything was still popular.....cowboys, monsters, superheroes, and sci fi you could see this in toys, tv, movies, you name it. Now.....not so much. Even traditional toys like cap guns, trains and dollies for little girls to cart around in baby baskets.....they were all still popular.
The candy was better, the cars...well they looked better, if not ran better. You usually had 3 channels to flip through...not 300, so if nothing was on you were more inclined to get up and do something.
The food, the sky, everything just seemed better.

Best of all, my Mom was still alive, and my Dad and Sister were still healthy...

        Everything was just better!

I was just a kid in the 70's but loved growing up in the decade. I was pretty oblivious to the war, politics, etc.

I honestly could go without the technology. I have a cell phone and hardly use it and really don't spend more than about 20 or 30 minutes on the internet. I can make do without hi-def and blu-ray or video games.

I really enjoyed spending my days outside playing pick up games or just using my imagination to make up games.

I have my own kids now and they have everything any kid could want: laptops, iPods, video games, HDTV, cell phones, etc. You don't know how often they say they are bored. My wife and I just look at each other stupified and both agree that we never told our parents we were bored. I wish I could just tell my kids to go outside and over to a friends house without having to arrange "play dates". So yes, I definitely think there is something to be said for simpler times.

If I would have told my parents I was bored, that was basically begging them to make me rake the leaves, mow the grass, hoe the garden, wash the car --- or all of the above

Kids nowadays get away with so much crap

Seeing as I basically look like one of the Allman Brothers circa 1973, clothes and all, I guess it's safe to say that I am totally cool with the 1970s, lol.

Most of my favorite things-- music, movies, cartoons, toys, clothes, cars, etc. -- were from the 1970s. Many have said that I was born too late (I was born in 1973) and I don't totally disagree with them.

I sometimes wish I'd have been born in 1965 instead. I would've been able to fully enjoy all the toys and things during the 1970s, and then be in my late teens and early twenties throughout the 1980s, which would've also been quite cool.

As it is though, I've got some really great memories of both decades, and I can actually remember quite a lot of the 1970s even though I was only seven when the '80s kicked in. I had an awesome childhood so I certainly don't have any regrets

As for someone's comment about current special f/x in movies being far better now......well, that's only partly true in my book. I think as cheesy as some old f/x were, I liked 'em better. Some of today's computer f/x just look too cartoony to me and actually ruin certain films for me. I'll take a green painted Lou Ferrigno any day!!

Alot of the things I miss about the 70's really had little to do with the 70's. Had I been a kid in any of the last few decades, I think I would have the same attachment to that decade. The innocence of childhood, the lack of responsibility, the love of toys or, in other words, a "simpler" time would have been simpler in the 50's, 60's, etc.

                            Hmmmm....

I don't miss the 70's at all. Disco should be enough of a crime to have the entire decade erased from history....

...wait; there are HOW many Disco fans here....?

Seriously though: I'm not a very nostalgic person and I DON'T miss the days of my youth. (There were a lot of really, REALLY bad times. It doesn't pay to be the smart AND fat kid sometimes....) What I DO miss is the sense of discovery; of seeing things that are genuinely new. I don't get that any more. Granted, I think it's mostly 'cos of me; that I've been around the block enough that I can see the patterns.

....but it would be nice to see a few real surprises; and not the "say, you're house is on fire" kind....

Agreed except that I'd gladly give up tech if I can also escape WORK, BILLS, TAXES etc . Being a kid in the 70's wasn't nearly perfect for me but it still beat being a (so-called) adult in the ZEROs (call 'em what they feel like to me).

I was born in September 1971, and while I do not remember much of the early 70's, I would say in terms of culture and watching TV and playing with toys and such, the turning point was either 1976 or 1977. I definitely miss the 70's because it was MY time of innocence. I agree with the earlier posts in that I too was oblivious to work and responsibilities and war. I recall the 70's being the last decade of record albums being popular and kids on shows like the Brady Bunch's idea of kids hanging out was to go to one's house and play records. This was before cassette tapes and later on, CD's would take over.
The 1970's was to me, the last decade of wholesome TV, with no disrespect to great 80's shows like the Cosby Show and Family Ties. But I recall when families used to watch the Wonderful World of Disney that either aired on Saturday or Sunday nights.
You had shows like the Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman and on Saturday Mornings, you had Shazam and Isis. There were family shows like Little House on the Prairie and the Waltons. I recall live variety shows like Lawrence Welk and Donnie and Marie. Action shows like Charlie's Angels, Starsky and Hutch, and Baretta. Sitcoms like Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley and Three's Company on Tuesday nights.
My favorite night of watching TV was on Friday nights in 1978 on CBS. You had Lynda Carter in the sexy star spangled costume as Wonder Woman followed by Bill Bixby as the mild mannered Dr. David Banner, who when angered morphed into Lou Ferrigno painted green and roared with rage as the Incredible Hulk.
I loved watching Saturday morning cartoons. I recall waking up with Hal Linden's Animals Animals Animals, just to make sure I got my weekly fix of the SuperFriends, then seeing shows like Scooby Doo and other Hanna Barbera favorites like the Laff A Lympics. And Filmation ruled when it came to action cartoons like Tarzan, the 1977 Batman series, and the Super 7. True that while many of these cartoons were toned down in action and dialogue to appease organizations like the Action for Children's Televison, they kept me well entertained as a kid.
The movies gave us the first Star Trek, Star Wars, Jaws, and Superman movies in their movie series. I also recall the popularity of the Black Hole and the TV series, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.
And when it came to toys, Mego ruled!!! There were so many things by Mego I wish I could have had, but at the same time, there were lots of Mego made toys I did have and am sorry I got rid of later on.
I admit, I love the days of thick hair, sideburns, long collared shirts, colored glasses, afros, and yes, even bell bottoms. And in terms of music, I loved the sounds of Seals and Crofts and Kat Stevens. And yes, I love disco. I found and bought the music soundtrack to season two of CHiPs online and I love that disco music. What can I say?I'm a product of my time.
I definitely miss the 1970's. My childhood hero Bill Bixby was alive back then as were greats like Michael Landon, Telly Savallas, John Denver, and others.
Ironically, while I have lots of channels on my TV, I prefer to pop in my DVDs of the Incredible Hulk, Wonder Woman, Six Million Dollar Man and I am planning to look for the classic Bionic Woman series as well as Shazam, BJ and the Bear, Sheriff Lobo, the Magician, and the Man From Atlantis.
                                Yeah, the 1970's were AWESOME!!!
                                Cheers.
