    Nickelback

So today is my 7th anniversary. I get up and it's a great morning here in FL. Hot but nots as bad as some days. I burn a fatty, throw on the ear buds and head out the rider, to cut the grass. I listen to nickelback the entire time and just had to say, I think this one of the best bands out there. They are starting to build longevity and never fail to put out an entertaining album. While not tech as good as some of my favorites from the old school rock, they are the closest thing around to me.

For what reason I wanted to express this, I have no clue!

Ok, maybe this is just me being nieve but what's "Burn a fatty" mean? I guess I'm too old to know what this is or it's a Florida thing. Either way, never heard of it before. BTW have a great anniversary!

Burn a fatty for me, I quit a few years back, Nickelback is great! I seen them in concert with Puddle of Mudd and Finger Eleven about 3 years ago at the state fair and now the same 3 bands are touring together again this year!

Teach, come on now, I thought you were the same age as me. Burn as Fatty is the same as Rolling a Bone, Puff the Magic Dragon, Catching Grandma's Chronic, or many other euphemisms for smoking pot. I know you boys in Texas did that back in our days, ya'll use to grow it yourselves.

About Nickelback, they are a very cool band. "Figure You Out" is a great song, I feel its a return fire at Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know":

I like your pants around your feet
And I like the dirt that's on your knees
And I like the way you still say please
While you're looking up at me
You're like my favorite damn disease

And I love the places that we go
And I love the people that you know
And I love the way you can't say no
Too many long lines in a row
I love the powder on your nose

And now I know who you are
            It wasn't that hard
            Just to figure you out
(Now I did, you wonder why)
And now I know who you are
            It wasn't that hard
            Just to figure you out
(Now I did, you wonder why)

I like the freckles on your chest
And I like the way you like me best
And I like the way you're not impressed
While you put me to the test
I like the white stains on your dress

I love the way you pass the check
And I love the good times that you wreck
And I love your lack of self respect
While you're passed out on the deck
I love my hands around your neck

And now I know who you are
            It wasn't that hard
            Just to figure you out
(Now I did, you wonder why)
And now I know who you are
            It wasn't that hard
            Just to figure you out
(Now I did, you wonder why)
(Why not before, you never tried)
Gone for good, and this is it

I like your pants around your feet

Actually, no, I never did drugs. I'm originally from Connecticut and sports and chicks were more important to me in high school. I joined the Air Force right out of H.S. and drugs were a no-no there.

Actually, I can count on one hand the number of times I tried pot and those few times, it didn't do much for me. I joined the military just out of high school as well, and never was around it much.

Funny thing that I remember, in high school, it seemed that the jocks did more pot than anyone.

About the lyrics above, I googled it and got a couple differences. "White stains on your dress" and "Wine stains on your dress" was two differences I noticed.

I never figured out exactly who NICKELBACK were
altho' I'm sure they are popular enough
that I've heard a few of their songs regardless

I gotta check them out----I love those lyrics antique posted

pot?---any kinda drugs?---just one rule: DON'T LET IT MESS UP YA MOJO

(I say do a billion drugs/alcohol/whatever ----as long as ya can handle it!!)

other than that---one request: PARTY ON!

I am sure you have heard this song, it was one of their first really big hit. It was (may still be) all over the BillBoards top 40, but it has been out for a couple years now, if not older.

Here are the lyrics to the other song I mentioned, "You Oughta Know". This chick was pretty mad when she wrote this, but it is a great song and came off one of the top selling albums of all times, "Jagged Little Pill" (maybe all time top selling female album):

I want you to know, that I am happy for you
I wish nothing but the best for you both
                          An older version of me
                          Is she perverted like me?
Would she go down on you in a theater?
                          Does she speak eloquently
And would she have your baby?
I'm sure she'd make a really excellent mother

1-'Cause the love that you gave that we made
Wasn't able to make it enough for you
                          To be open wide, No
And every time you speak her name
Does she know how you told me
You'd hold me until you died
Till you died, but you're still alive

2-And I'm here, to remind you
Of the mess you left when you went away
It's not fair, to deny me
Of the cross I bear that you gave to me
                          You, you, you oughta know

You seem very well, things look peaceful
I'm not quite as well, I thought you should know
Did you forget about me, Mr. Duplicity?
I hate to bug you in the middle of dinner
It was a slap in the face
                          How quickly I was replaced
And are you thinking of me when you f... her?
                          (rpt 1,2)

                          Ohh... aah... ahh... ahh...

'Cause the joke that you laid in the bed
That was me and I'm not gonna fade
As soon as you close your eyes, and you know it
And every time I scratch my nails
Down someone else's back I hope you feel it
                          Well, can you feel it?

I know THAT song very well...

I always thought that she musta been pretty proud
of herself for writing that---for a while---
its a nicely written song---and was very successful

                            but

then I'd think she'd get uneasy singing it year in and year out because, in the
end, it comes of the opposite of what its SUPPOSED to be
"depowering" instead of "empowering" ---- as the lyrics are essentially one
big "whine" if its heard more than once that becomes more clear---to me
anyway---I mean, it has her investing all that angst in some guy she should
                            just "move on" from

And I thought man, doesn't Alanis think everytime before she sings it:
"JEEZ, I gotta call this guy a total jerk AGAIN? He don't deserve my breath!"

The reality is its a big song for her---so whatever the situation, she'll do it!

And, by the way, I do see how you could correlate those lyrics
                            with the NICKELBACK lyrics antique
"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris Mannix
