They are showing their age. When I last saw Ace he had saggy cheeks and flab wiggling under his arms. He needed to retire. Tommy Thayer took his place.
Too many toys. Not enough space!

i got to hang with ace when he was on his own doing the whole solo tour. It was at a little club in poughkeepsie new york called the chance. I remeber seeing him without all the makeup and my first though was holy crap is he ugly. His face was destroyed. incredible concert however as he did all his kiss tricks. after the show my friend and myself hung out for about half an hour. One of my favorite memories. I met a crapload of bands there cause there was no backstage really. You went out the side door and your outside and if you knew where to hang out you could meet anyone.

That's really cool, I'd love to meet Ace, he's always been my favourite member. But yeah, unfortunately he's always had skin problems since his original stint in KISS (and probably before). And wearing all that makeup every night probably didn't help things, nor has all the hard living he's done.

My first concert as a kid was in '77 - The Love Gun tour. I have never been the same since. I have the original Mego figures, boxed. I have all the various card sets through the years and more record variations, Japan imports, and autographs to boot. I've met Gene Simmons twice and my wife got to run up to the front stage and hand Paul Stanley t-shirts I made for the band during the reunion tour (hand painted renditions of their solo album artwork). He saw me waving them in the crowd (We were seven rows back and he gestured for security to have my wife bring them up. It was very cool. That same night we collected up a guitar pick Stanley threw into the crowd while he playing Love Gun. Of course these are all condensed and abbreviated memories but yeah... I'M A FAN.

I think I still have a whole binder full of KISS pictures that I drew when I was a kid. I remember many times just laying on the living room floor, copying pictures from album covers and magazines while I was listening to my KISS records on the family stereo.

I've seen them four times in concert (sadly none in the "old days"). During the first reunion tour I managed to snag an Ace guitar pick that he threw.

Once they took the makeup off theier album sales and concert attendance
improved climbing onwards to more significant numbers than they had
seen since Criss' departure in 1980.
The make up removal was a gimmick too. They were going downhill and needed to get the product back out there. The improved sales and concerts were the result of the newest novelty, to see them without the makeup.

Yes, That is indeed how they salvaged their career.

As I mentioned----the makeup was played out.

I feel like we're discussing how to open a can of soda or some
other such obvious task...but, yes, the "no make up"-era was waning
----so they put the makeup back on in 1996 in the hope it would help
                                salvage their careers.

They scored pretty dang big on THAT one, the last "insanely big move"
                                they'll ever make.

I love KISS and everything but they don't have the face value left in them
that bands like, let's say, ZEP would have for a tour or other project----
heck, at this moment, even VAN HALEN can win over KISS in just about
                                any arena (monetarily at least).

Although if they play their cards right, KISS could make a significant splash
with a WALMART type promotion ala JOURNEY or AC/DC...after that,
                                options be really slim
