NFL.com reports that the Pats are near a deal to acquire Julius Peppers from the Carolina Panthers for the pick they received for Matt Cassel. They also reported that Carolina was not interested in a first round pick due to the financial restrictions associated with signing a first round pick, further explaining why they settled for a second round pick and the trading of Mike Vrabel which freed almost 6 mil in salary cap space. Peppers will be converted to outside LB, the space left vacated by trading Vrabel. It is believed the only thing left is to sign Peppers to a long term deal which has to be negotiated and worked out due to the franchise tag Carolina attached to Peppers this season guaranteeing him almost $16 million. Unnamed sources have stated Peppers is interested in negotiating and signing and talks are already near completion. In Bill we trust!! There's always a plan. By the way, look at all the commotion going on in Denver right now. It was reported this morning that one stumbling block that stopped Cassel from going to Denver was the signing of long snapper Lonnie Paxton by the Broncos. The deal offered made the virtually unknown position player the highest paid at that position. He had been with the Pats for several seasons. Rumour has it this player was highly coveted by Belichick and made him less willing to deal with Denver afterwards. Something that's causing a great deal of stress between new Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels and QB Jay Cutler right now. Cutler has refused to attend todays camp and has asked Denver to seek a trade for him. Plus the fact that New England plays Denver at least once or twice a season on average made the trade of Cassel to KC more feasable.

Last game I saw Peppers in,.. I don't think they called his name once, against the Cards... Very effective was he.

Last game I saw Cutler in,.. All he had to do was win,.. to get into the play offs,.. he had 3 games to do it in,.. just win once,.. & they were in. Instead the Chargers shoved that Bolt up the Broncos Arse. ...

Yeah, I dunno,.. Cutler should have never went to the ProBowl, over Rivers. Just my take.

^^ The only sure fire way to get in the playoffs (under the current system) is to win your division...which the Pats did not do. They came close though...but not close enough.
