Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Did anyone else read the book yet? I picked up a copy the night it was released, and devoured it in two days. It was actually the first of the Potter books that I ever bought for myself. My daughter is a huge fan, and I had read her copies of the previous books, but I couldn't wait to find out what happened in the new book and didn't want to wait until she'd finished her copy to read it I didn't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't finished it yet, but I'd be interested in other peoples' takes on the book.

I got it in the mail on Saturday afternoon and finsihed it up on Sunday night. I'm glad that all the questions did get answered, but I did feel that it did drag in the middle. It's almost like it was written specifically with the movie in mind. Some of the deaths were surprising and it makes me wonder which characters she origianlly planned to have survive and then changed her mind about. I enjoyed the epiloge, but I wish it had gone into more detail on a few other characters as well as carreer paths. It still leaves the door open for companion books to be written as well and I hope that does happen. If George Lucas was willing to let people expand the Star Wars universe then why not let the HP universe be expanded as well.

I didn't read it, but my wife was glued to the couch for a day and a half while she devoured it. I think the house could have caught fire and she wouldn't have noticed it. She works at the local library and knew it would get spoiled for her if she didn't go ahead and read it all.

In an online interview, J.K. Rowling indicated that she originally planned to bump off Arthur Weasley but spared him in the final draft. Lupin and Tonks were both slated to survive in early drafts, but she later changed her mind and killed them both off.
I agree that the book was slow going for a bit towards the middle chapters, but once Harry and friends ended up at Malfoy Manor things really picked up quickly. I really enjoyed this book alot.

also she had originally planned to take out harry but due to so many people asking her please don't do it she changed her mind her reason for wanting to kill off harry was so she didn't need to write about any of the stuff any more and someone else couldn't ever pick it up to keep writing it kind of sumed up what she said their

I read it. It was a great finish to a great set of stories. I agree it did slow in the middle a bit as they fumbled around not knowing which way to go, but not enough that I ever really felt bored. The characters are strong enough to carry it.

I also read it in 2 days. I have read every one of them and thought it was the best of the 7.

I really didn't get bored at all and liked the way the book would roller coaster you from major scenes back to more normal Rowling pace only to throw another curveball of action.

I saw an interview with Rowling as well who said she was planning on writing a Harry Potter Encyclopedia that will further explain what ended up with all of the characters (but she is going to take a much needed break and wants to use all of the proceeds from the book to go to charity). She did say that Harry and Ron ended up as two great Aurors and Hermione landed a top job at the Ministry of Magic.
