I used to go to Blockbuster...but had it with their horrid customer service.

Netflix rules...I get my DVD's within two days tops. I even have lost a couple of DVDs in the past...and they didn't charge me for them.

Dude, that Blockbuster news link you provided is 12 years old! (I thought it was odd as it kept referring to video "tapes")....

They are actually in worst shape than 12 years ago.

There's a Redbox near where I work and I just started using it. If you just want to rent newer, mainstream movies for cheap, it's great. Only $1.00 a night and there are always free rental codes around (I just wish they would start carrying Blu-ray discs too). Between Redbox, Netflix, and downloading (legal and otherwise) how can Blockbuster compete? They are an overpriced dinosaur at this point.

Biggest problem with Netflix is they constantly send cracked, warped, scratched or some otherwise unplayable DVDs.

I don't think they ever upgrade their used stock.

They just keep passing around the same garbage over and over.

Of the hundreds of DVDs I have received from Netflix over the years...only one was in bad shape...I returned it...and got a good one...no fuss...no mess.

I'm a bit odd - I buy all my discs. Have thousands of DVDs hundreds of blu-rays and hundreds of Lazer discs, even a few hd-dvds

I usually get Netflix twice a year ... usually for 2 months at a time.

I get caught up on new stuff and then cancel.

It saves a lot of money not having it all the time and not using it.

I'm half and half. I buy a lot, but there are some movies that I just want to see, and I don't want to keep, those ones are rentals. Or sometimes I will blind buy a movie if I get a really good deal on it. Then if I really like it, I keep it. If it sucks or is just average, I can sell it an make my money back, so it's basically a free rental (might even make a small profit on it).

I've used Netflix for at least 5 years. It rocks, although I have to agree that they frequently send out cracked discs. However, they're really good about sending you a new ASAP when you ntoify them of the problem.

I'm glad BBV is going down. I've had an ax to grind against them since my first exhorbitant late fee. I hate the way they screw with the language, too. For example, "no more late fees" means you pay for the video, then get a "reshelving fee" when you finally bring it back. They stole Netflix's whole business model for their online service, which is far inferior (way slower with more cracks and scratches) to Netflix (I've tried it, trust me). Finally, there is their BB "Favorites" titles, which you can rent for a lower price. These are actually the LEAST FAVORITE movies in the store (Gigli, Iceman, etc.)... absolutely Orwellian!

BBV's business plan has always seemed to be: "Get money. Use these videos as the hook to get money. Confuse and mess people over as much as possible to get their money." Whereas, Netflix's business plan is: "BBV sucks. Let's do something reasonable to rent out movies to people. I'm sure we can make money with it."

Netflix ain't perfect, but they're SO much better than BBV.

We've been Netflix members since 2004.. it's one of the best things we've ever done. Out of the hundreds and hundreds of discs we've rented, only one arrived cracked and unplayable. Of course we've had a few more that were smudged and/or choppy to play, but that's usually easily fixed with a quick disc washing at the sink.

Netflix has allowed me to see fantastic shows I otherwise probably never would, like The Wire and Deadwood. I'm not one to buy DVDs so Netflix has been the perfect fit.

The only negative thing I would say is that we were a victim of their "throttling" practices in the first year or two of our membership.. but after the class-action suit, that has since not been a problem.
