I concur. Although, I think it is a much wider spread thing than just Chicago. I think these types of things are just ingrained in all of our heads. When something is given a name for years and years and then changes suddenly most won't refer to it by its new name. It isn't until the "new" generation that has grown up knowing it by its new name that it truly takes effect. Its no different then when they change the names of arenas (even local venues) and other such landmarks.
You can change the name but all of us that grew up knowing it as Sears Tower are going to continue to call it that. I can't imagine myself getting into a downtown cab and asking to go to the Willis Tower even if I know that is its new name. Its almost like a subconscious thing.
