I agree with kirk! I live in Central Jersey not to far from the ocean and it's the same size and price. Only difference is at the Seaside Boardwalk. A whole pizza is alot more than 2 feet across and costs between 25-30 bucks. Pizza, beer and sand... perfect together!

I buy from Pizza Nova here because the pizza is good but it's only a 10 slice large and the kids are now eating 50% of it. Pizza is one of those things I've begun to slow way, way down on.

Most large pizzas up here are 14"-16" in diameter. Chicago Deep Dish sells the rectangular ones, and a large there is about 16" x 24". They used to be real good too!
Being Canadian, I wont mention the ghastly prices a large pizza has grown to up here!...Lets just say in most cases a 20 wont cover it!!

Here's a menu scan of one of my local ma and pa pizza places.

Like I said, large is usually about 20" across

They don't have an "extra large"

We usually order a tray of pizza from a local place. It's rectangular and pretty damn big (cut into 24 squares), for around 15 bucks. We once ordered one when my wife's friends from Japan were visiting. They were astonished, they never saw such a big pizza, and they couldn't get over the low price either.

That's pretty much a standard for all Ma and Pa places.

Chain pizza places are a lot smaller.

I never go to chain pizza places --- imo they all look and taste like store frozen pizza

I think you are right in that Larges are now 14" when they used to be 16". I know Pizza Hut acts like a 16" pizza is a big deal. At any rate, 12" ain't a Large pizza by any stretch of the imagination.

Come to the UK. A 12" pizza would be double that price.

A new pizza joint opened up here in town, like we needed another one.Well we gave it a try and ordered a large and holy crap it was only a 12" pizza.I don't want to sound like"do you remember when" but gimme a break. It tasted okay but for $10.99 I expected a full size pizza.I know larges use to be 16", Pappa John's pizza I'm thinking is down to a 14".For that size and that price its better to get a frozen one from the store.Needless to say they won't be getting my $10.99 anymore! Thanks for letting me vent,I feel much better now.
