            Cool,

Question: How do you keep - or display - the cards ?

Do you keep the special ones seperately in protector display cases ? ... and the commons in a book ?

That truly is a great accomplishment. Congrats. When they started mass producing stuff I got out of the card industry altogether. It was actually a large part of my last hobby store years ago. Bet I still have 100,000 cards left sitting in storage boxes. I know I have at least 20 unopened wax boxes, though most is slow moving stuff that was left when I closed. Hopefully by the time I want to sell my house and move on it will get some value and be worth something. I'll hold onto my personal collection which is about 3-4 thousand cards and dates to when I started collecting in the 70's and move the bulk of others which are basically common stuff that accumulated during the years I was open. The card market really has suffered since I was a kid. Now they only focus on the monetary value rather than the interest of the sports themselves. It's too bad. So few collectors today actually build sets. It worked out well as a dealer because they would leave the common stuff behind. I went through a box a while back and pulled 5 different Marvin Harrison rookie cards that got me a quick $50 bucks at the time from a collector. It was in a common box I had bought for 1 cent/card which I did often as addicted collectors needed more money to buy unopened packs. At the time he was not considered much so the collector had passed him off when opening packs as a common card. It amazes me when I see cards like the Mark McGwire Olympic Rookie card and how low they sell for today versus what I sold them for back then.

I used to collect baseball cards but like others have said, I stopped with all the different brands, chase cards, autographed cards, etc.

Most of my cards are from the 70's from when I was a kid. I know I have some cards that were worth some money at one point but honestly haven't paid much attention.

The only one i may keep is an 84 Star company Barkley card which i've had since 86 and paid 50 cents for

I hear you i rember back in 92 when Topps had the gold card parallels and everyone wanted a Brian Taylor RC gold card I ended up with just about the whole set that year for free as people bought packs just for the gold cards and didn't want the reg cards and they left them the shop owner just gave me the stacks to go thru and take what i needed for free. That is when the hobby died the dawn of gimmick cards aka insert cards, people cared more about getting them instead of collecting the reg set and then lost intrest when they moved on to the next hot gimmick

I'm wondering if baseball collecting will never rebound.

With the older collectors now dying off, will younger collectors be willing to shell out the big bucks anymore?

I don't know the answer because I'm really not into collecting them but I'm wondering as supply increases over the next few years for the harder to find cards as older collectors die, will the prices start decreasing as newer collectors will be unwilling to pay big bucks for a Mickey Mantle rookie for example because they were never alive to see him play.

I don't know the answer to that but am just speculating.

With the stock market in the tank, I have noticed a huge resurgence in coin collecting (especially older silver coins). I collect coins here and there but not to any great extent.

Most of my friends who collect generally tell me they don't collect newer commeratives but will pay big bucks for high quality older Morgans for example. It doesn't make sense to me on some level. I have a friend who will spend $4,000 on a high grade Morgan silver dollar but would be unwilling to plunk down $450 for a 1/2 ounce 24 karat gold coin that has a lower production than the Morgans.
