Watchmen movie question? That I didn't understand

    COULD BE SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry guys I never read this before so I have a couple of questions that I didn't understand if someone can help me out.

What year was the movie suppose to take place in? I see Nixon so i'm guessing early 70's but I see that Rorschach's Journal says 1985 and he dies while Nixon was President and then in the end the reporter guy says Reagan will never be President and he was President in 1980...i don't get it,can someone help explain this?

In this alternate reality of The Watchmen's 1985 they've done away with term limits and Nixon is serving his fourth ( or fifth?) term in office.

Hey Toys2cool, what are your thoughts about the film? Early reports coming in are the film is going to be the first bomb of 2009. Expensive to make and not bringing in the haul they expected the first weekend. I also heard it was close to three hours long. Wow. That's amazing, since these are not universally known characters. Just curious if you went into the film as a specific fan of the graphic novel or a general fan of comic book movies. I'm aware of the novel, but would essentially be a newbie when it comes to knowing whether the film is faithful to the source material.

i KNOW THAT , THE LAST QUESTION WAS NOT DIRECTED AT ME.......HOWEVER.....AS A TREMENDOUS FAN OF THE ORIGINAL SOURCE MATERIAL I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT ANYONE THAT IS PLANNING TO SEE THIS MOVIE.......READ THE SOURCE MATERIAL ! I SAW THE MOVIE AND WAS VERY IMPRESSED. THERE WAS SOME STUFF THAT WAS LEFT OUT , BUT IT WAS WORTH THE LOSS FOR THE STUFF THAT THEY LEFT IN ! i F YOU ARE ANYTHING LIKE ME WHEN IT COMES TO MOVIES LIKE THIS......IT PAY'S TO BE FAMILIAR WITH THE STORY AND CHARACTERS ONLY BECAUSE I FEEL AS THOUGH YOU WILL HAVE A GREATER APPRECIATION FOR THE FILM. ANYONE GOING INTO THIS MOVIE WITHOUT A LITTLE FOUNDATION MIGHT GET A BIT CONFUSED OR LEFT IN A SMALL FOG.....BUT FOR SOMEONE LIKE MYSELF I WAS PLEASED AND IMPRESSED WITH ZACK SNYDERS VISION OF THE BOOK(S) AND EVEN THOUGH ALAN MOORE SEEMS TO HATE EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING....HE WOULD HAVE TO SMILE AT SOME POINTS IN THIS MOVIE.....aNDERSON

I Loved the movie. It was really close to the Novel. I Love the way it Looked. It was Almost three hours long but it didn't feel like it. It does start of kinda slow but then it Builds. I liked the way it built up. It's going to be one of those movies that either your gonna Love it or your not. Great Soundtrack, Amazing images, Fantastic

I haven't read the graphic novel so when I went to see it I was able to judge it based on the movie itself. I enjoyed it and would like to see it again. It is very graphic and disturbing at times but a good movie anyways. I'll read the graphic novel later. I want to see the movie again first. Maybe a few more times. I'll be buying the DVD when it comes out.

Great reviews guys (and thanks for the novel recommendation BGrimm77). I will have to give that some serious consideration. Without question I want to see this movie, but it always pays to have some understanding of the content before you sit in front of that screen.
