Nasty day to be out there. I live about a mile from the Gulf and last night was brutal, can't imagine what it was like on the water.

Its been all over the news here. Not sure what they were thinking going out on a little boat with that front coming thru. Not really bright.

It was a pretty heavy storm that night, two hours of fighting for air and trying to hold onto the side of a boat is way more than I could ever endure. Senseless loss of life.

The Gulf of Mexico is a little different than the Pacific or Atlantic, but no less deadly. You don't get to deep water until I think the 100 mile mark. I owned a similar boat, 21ft with a 70 gallon tank, and it could run out 50 miles and back, but I don't think I'd make than run, even on a dead calm summer day. 50 miles out and relying on a single motor is too risky, I generally stayed out on the five mile reef. At five miles out on a perfect day you could watch the fish hit the bait on the bottom. It was only 30 feet deep five miles off shore.

This is the boat pulled out from the sea...

I'm sorry...but four inexperienced seafaring big guys in this little thing, in the Winter, 50 miles off shore?

Not very smart on their part.

Bill i couldn't agree with you more. I used to live in fort Myers then Cape Coral and this really was a terrible loss. A little more planning and a little more safety and all 4 young men would still be alive. I feel for the left loved ones and children of the players.

I mourn for the loss of life, and for heavy hearts the families left behind must feel. How very tragic.
