    For All You Sports Collectors!!!!

We all have a Holy Grail list, but you ever come across something you didn't even know existed?

This was listed last night on eBay with a BIN of $600. I have never seen one before. I e-mailed the seller and told him "Make the BIN $400 and its sold!!!"

He did and I grabbed it. It is the program from the Hiesman ceremony in 1959 signed by Billy Cannon:

That is a cool piece of memorabilia.

It is amazing the things you run across when you look for them.

Very nice piece to add to your collection. And a more than fair and generous offer on your part. I hope you enjoy it.

A couple guys on my forum think I paid too much, especially right now during this economy, but I didn't want to battle it out and risk not getting it.

The biggest collector on my forum thinks it is a fair price since he says the only one he knew of in existence is in the sports museum at LSU.

I knew he was out of town the morning it was listed and I was afraid he would have grabbed it if it went to auction. He has alot deeper pockets than I do.

Alot of the stuff in the LSU museum is on loan from his collection.

It is too hard to put a price tag on a one of a kind item.

I have a swan decoy that I commissioned out to a famous decoy maker...waited over a year for it and paid close to $4,000 for it. Most people probably think I'm nuts for paying that kind of price.

I have talked to decoy experts who have told me that I could easily turn around and sell it for $6,000+ right now if I wanted to because quite frankly, this particular artist can't make them fast enough and someone would be willing to pay a premium for it to have it in hand now.

I was also told that if he lived back in the day when decoys were made primarily for hunting and not as decorative collectibles, it would probably be worth about $100,000 today.

I just purchased a Holy Grail of my own and funny that it was a decoy.

This is a Merganser decoy that I purchased recently and is made by the #1 contemporary decoy maker living today. His decoys are so desirable that you rarely see them for sale and almost never show up on the secondary market. The date of the decoy is circa 1978/1979 which was pretty early in is career. I did pay quite a bit for it (not as much as the swan decoy) and could easily sell it at a profit if I wanted.
