LATE NIGHT FRIDAY 1970s TRIVIA CONTEST - WEEK #2!!

Hi everyone, welcome back to another round of 1970S trivia!

This week's musical clip is a classic early TV appearance of the HOTTEST BAND IN THE WORLD, KISS!!!!! This clip is from the Paul Lynde Halloween Special, from 1976. I remember watching this the night it came on, my friends & I were so psyched up over Kiss back then!
So here's Peter Criss, singing "Beth"...

YouTube - Kiss : Beth (Paul Lynde Halloween Special)

    Pretty cool, even lip-synced.

Congratulations again to my winner from the last week TOYROOM. The prize changes at my whim each week, so contestants can win more than once.

For any newcomers, here's da rest o' da rulz:

I'll post five (5) trivia questions related to 1970s ERA various MEGO figures or characters...not closely related, as you'll see, the paths from Mego to question can diverge greatly!

First person to answer all of them correctly will get a little prize package of a random 1970s paperback book, comics, magazines, etc...a couple random Mego Museum cards, and maybe some assorted 1970s oddball goodies I come across.
Now don't get too excited...you're not gonna get anything worth a million bucks. Actually, the junk I plan to unload on the "winner"...excuse me, I mean, the fine collectible items I plan to offer as prizes will entertain you (I hope), and we'll all have a good time.

And just maybe, if you're not too careful, you just might learn something. Or not.

As far as the answers, please try to keep them all together in one post so we don't have to jump around collecting them all-someone can beat you to the punch by doing just that, so again, all 5 in the same post. If you get one or two wrong, please correct yourself again with all five just to keep things coherant for everyone involved, thanks!

And since I don't have any anti-Googling software in place I can't stop you from internet searching. If you know all this stuff without searching, why aren't you on Jeopardy playing for real money?

Oh, and please remember that all answers are subject to the final decision of the judge, which be me, so no arguing, it's all for fun, so let's not get crazy!

So without further ado, in the words of the Immortal Navin Johnson, "Step right up and win some crap!"

    MEGO STAR QUESTION #1- KISS:

I'm still pumped from that Kiss appearance, so here's a question about the group. And, no, it does not involve Gene's tongue.

My question is: WHAT FAMOUS ROCK MUSICIAN DESIGNED THE ORIGINAL KISS LOGO?

MEGO STAR QUESTION #2- WONDER WOMAN:

Since we were just talking about music, don't you think that TV's Wonder Woman had one of the greatest theme songs ever? I preferred the WW2 era stories over the modern update. They switched the comic book adventures to WW2 for awhile as well to match the show. Those wacky Amazons and their kangaroo riding rodeos!

My question is: IN THE COMIC BOOKS, WHAT WAS THE AMAZON'S GREATEST SCIENTIFIC INVENTION, USED TO SAVE WONDER WOMAN'S LIFE MANY TIMES?

MEGO STAR QUESTION #3- FLASH GORDON:

Flash Gordon, created by the wonderful artist Alex Raymond is arguably one of the greatest comic strip series of all times. Buster Crabbe did a pretty good job playing Flash back in the day, even with the hokey rocketships on a string. The 1980 film had another one of those fantastic theme songs by Queen. Wish the recent sci-fi series had been better though, but hey, Flash is due for a big screen revival soon, I'm sure!

My question is: IN THE ORIGINAL COMIC STRIP, WHAT WAS FLASH GORDON FAMOUS FOR ON EARTH BEFORE TRAVELLING TO MONGO?

    MEGO STAR QUESTION #4- AQUAMAN:

The King of the Seven Seas gets no love, does he? People just make fun of him, his powers, his orange shirt, his hook, his beard- well, you get the idea. I say he deserves better. Look at him- he's tall, blonde, muscular, he's rich, he's got a beautiful mermaid wife, AND HE'S THE FREAKIN' KING OF ATLANTIS!
KING! That's way better than owning the Wayne Foundation or working at the Daily Planet! Haven't you heard...it's good to be king! He gets to make the rules for the whole bubble city!

My question is: WHAT'S THE NAME OF AQUAMAN'S PET OCTOPUS?

MEGO STAR QUESTION #5- DOCTOR WHO:

We can all debate endlessly over which Doctor is the best. It really just seems to be a matter of when you started watching the show as to who "your Doctor" is. My choice is pretty obvious, although I'm really liking the current Doctor (#10). Either way, I really enjoy watching the show in any era, from the rubber-suit monsters to the CGI special effect.

My question is: NOT ALL OF THE DOCTOR'S COMPANIONS HAVE BEEN HUMAN...CAN YOU NAME THE ALIEN COMPANIONS WHO HAVE TRAVELLED WITH THE DOCTOR? (HINT THERE WERE SEVEN OF THEM)

Ok, so there you have it. On the count of three, you may begin!
    1...2...3...GO!!!

Johhny I will give Question 5 a shot:
    1. Susan, his grand daughter from Gallifrey
    2. Leela of the Sevateem
    3. K-9, the doctor's second best friend
    4. Romana 1/Mary Tamm & Romana 2/Lalla Ward from Gallifrey
    5. Adric an evolved marshmen from a planet in N-Space
    6. Nyssa from Traken
    7. Turlough from Trion
    8. Kamelion an android shape shifter
The others I have no clue about but the first Season of WW set in WW2 is the best, the only season I own or cared to own on DVD.

I only have an answer to question 1: Ace Frehley.

But that clip reminds me that I really have to pick up the DVD for the Paul Lynde Halloween Special. I was kind of miffed that the KISSOLOGY sets only included "King of the Nighttime World" from the show, so I was happy to see a DVD released which features that whole wacky special.

ARRRGH! I knew this would happen as soon as I decided to use that Doctor Who question...I screwed up Question Five because I forgot Kamelion (as did the Doctor since I think he was put into a storage room immediately after he appeared). There were EIGHT alien companions, not seven like I said. ARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!
              Sorry, my bad!

Drain, I'll add you to the winner list too for pointing that out for me...and Strange Visitor, congratulations! You have all the others correct in the same post.

Drain and SV, pm your info and I'll send a prize pack out to each of you ASAP.

              Answers were:

#1- Ace Frehley designed the Kiss logo..way back when they band decided to change their name to KISS from Wicked Lester. Good choice on that one!

#2- The Amazon Hospital had that Purple Healing Ray ready to go ....whenever an Amazon was injured the call would go out: "Amazon Rampart, this is Squad 51, eta 7:37! Purple Ray needed for hangnail injury!" "Roger, Squad 51! Purple Ray ready upon arrival!"

#3- Flash Gordon was a world-famous polo player. How times change...Can anyone here name ANY polo player, let alone the champion?

#4-Topo was the faithful octopus sidekick to the King of the Sea!

#5- The Doctor had many companions, but only EIGHT were not from any era on Earth: Susan, Leela, Romana, Adric, Nyssa,Turlough, Kamelion, and good ol' K-9.

Thanks guys, come back again next week for more!

I'm pretty sure Leela was human

I counted Leela in because she was not born on Earth in any era. Right now I'm wishing I had a Tardis as well to go back in time so I would not have asked a Doctor Who question!

                    Darn, missed it again.

                    How about Saturday Night Trivia?
Man, Fridays are so bad for me.

I've had a couple people ask me that as well, so I'm considering it. The last couple Friday nights have been hectic for me as well for some reason.
