I love Bill Shatner's portrayal of Captain Kirk too. I think he was great.

But it just saddens me to see that you're such a big TREK fan, and you're closing yourself off to even the possibility of enjoying a new take on these classic characters.

The survival of STAR TREK depends greatly upon the support of its fans... their willingness to "...boldly go..." in new directions of change even with the portrayal of established characters.

Despite my long-windedly expressed opinion on this, there is no "I'm wrong and you're right". You're absolutely entitled to feel the way you do.

I only feel, as your MEGO message board comrade (and fellow Trek fan) that you'd probably enjoy STAR TREK more if you let go of some of your rigid "classic series" outlook, and embraced some changes.

It's what STAR TREK is ultimately all about.

...and just because he does a killer Joker voice for the animated version...does not mean he's going to translate well on screen in person.

True..Hamill is Fat and Old and would be a horrible Joker. Nichloson was Fat and old but was great!

Heck, as far as I'm concerned the Joker could carry a movie himself---
or ---a fantasy of mine----is to have him matched up with SUPERMAN
or another prominent DC hero like FLASH or WONDER WOMAN---or

I know the CATWOMAN and ELEKTRA movies didn't work out----but
I just have this fascination with the JOKER character---so I keep
fantasizing about future big movie appearances.

It will be like when Someone Else was the Crow,.. Other than Brandon Lee,.. it just won't matter & no one will care.

I think Lee's crow was more compelling on screen anyway. If they don't reuse the Joker in another of the BALE batfillms fine by me but these people are NUTS.

Reeve/Pryor/O'Toole/Vaughn comedy

(AS far as what I REALLY think about Elektra, I've never seen it...
just going by box office totals and what I've heard from fans---it was a bust.
Who knows...I may have liked it.)

I personally have no demands that they never use the Joker again(He's My favorite Bat-Villan!)...but I do think Ledger OWNED the part...so they should at least give the Joker a good long rest, before bringing Him back.

let's put it this way, i don't think there should be another joker in the nolan batman series. but if 10 years from now they make a 60's style batman movie there is no reason the joker should not be in it.

The guy I'd like to see do the next Joker in a Batman movie would be Ryan Gosling. Everything I've seen him do has been an incredible performance. Anyone who dismisses his talent simply because he was in The Notebook should take a look at the job he did in Half-Nelson. Physically, I think he matches the body style of the Joker (Gosling is like 6-4 or something). And, he's got the mad acting skills to bring an interesting slant to the character.
