What is up with Joaquin Phoenix?

I just got done watching him on Letterman. It's either some Crispin Glover/Andy Kaufman style stunt or the dude needs help!

Someone that said he was in the audience at Letterman chimed in on IMDB. He said it was an act:

        IMDb :: Boards :: (1993) :: Joaquin Phoenix: I was there. Wow.

Wow, what a difference 4 years can make. I find letterman kind of annoying. That Farrah interview was tragic.

That was something else. I had flashbacks to the Crispin Glover stunt myself.

I liked Letterman's quip tonight, "I owe Farrah an apology" (or words to those effect).

To me it looked like an act

His looks kind of remind me of a 70's era Francis Ford Coppola.

It was all a put up.

My guess, they didn't plan it ahead of time but the few chuckles from the audience at the start fueled it and they just ran with it.

                    They're both professional actors.
They know how to play an audience

I watched it on youtube just now.

I was kind of hoping it was for real, because I don't get about how being
a tough interview is a great idea for a prank.

It was fun to watch for it's awkwardness---but if it was a gag---then
that entertainment goes out the window.

Reason being----anyone can PRETEND to be awkward in an interview...
I don't see the challenge there....and I want to see a REAL trainwreck
                      ---not a fake one.

At least Kaufman/Lawler was part of a plot arc that was bigger than
                      just the Dave show.

He's probably a boring talk show guest (and he knows it) so he did this to make it more interesting.

If he's leaving Hollywood and acting then why is he ON Letterman to begin with?

It's funny you say that Mike...cause that actually went through my head
as a possibility of why that happened if this is indeed a fake act.

I have to admit--if that's exactly the case..I have to tip my hat---
cause it takes a bit humility for a celeb to admit that about themselves!
