Name your favourite character in a "franchise"

    I'm curious.
Who's your favourite LOTR character, for example?
Or in SW? ST? The Alien saga?

I find it interesting why people bond with certain characters.
So tell me yours, and more importantly, why?
I hope it goes beyond "Darth Vader, because he's bad-***!"
I'm hoping for a little more.

This isn't a contest. No SW vs ST. Not one is "better"....

    To kick this off:
my favourite character in LOTR is....Boromir.
What? That creep who betrayed them by wanting to take the Ring?

    No, it's not that simple.
To me, Boromir is the perfect example of what it is to be human. Not black or white, but many shades of grey in between. He's no Superman, and no Darth Maul. His flaws, his weakness, his striving to do good for his people, make him so interesting. He's not a bad man, he struggles so hard, but does make wrong choices. He is a textbook example of "man". That gave the character depth. Most misunderstood his actions for "selfish" and "untrustworthy".
To me, that is not the case. I'm not a big fan of "perfect" characters. I need a little more "spice".
So here's to Boromir! Not such a bad guy after all....
    .
    .
    .

    Ok let's see here

*Lotr-Legolas he's just loyal as hell and a bad ***!

*Gi Joe-Shipwreck ,he just reminds me of myself

*Star wars-Of course Vader is the coolest, but I like Qui-Gon Jinn and watto (Qui for having the guts to stand up to the Jedi counsel and not caring what they thought and Watto for trying to be so sneaky and cheap,it's hilarious

*Star trek-Kirk not much to say there, except he's so freakin' cool

    *He-man-probably Skeletor,love his evil ways

My fav Star Wars character was Luke.
The entire classic movie series was built around Luke being the star.
Only the new movies changed all that and somehow made Vader the star of everything.

I guess I'd have to say Star Trek and the SMDM.

'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

Star Trek--The one and only James T. Kirk (as portrayed by Shatner of course!)
              Star Wars--Han Solo---essentially a cowboy in space.
Battlestar Galactica --(the original not the boring redo)--Starbuck--Maverick in space!
              Space:1999--Koenig--the man in charge!
GI Joe--Old Kung fu gripped fuzzy headed, bearded land commander.
MOTU--Man At Arms---didnt need any stinking magic sword or talking tiger to get the job done.
Magnificent Seven--Chris. May have been bald and talked funny, but he was in charge, and stuck to his guns.

                /cracks knuckles/

LORD OF THE RINGS (novels): Frodo. That's right, dammit, I said Frodo! Speaking of "real people who make mistakes", here's a protagonist who willfully joins the ranks of Evil at the climax of the story! Frodo puts on the Ring at the Cracks of Doom, not for some high-minded heroic purpose such as kicking Sauron's a**, but out of greed and fear of powerlessness, and most of all, because the Ring is "his precious"! How's that for human fallibility?

LOTR (films):Sam. That's right, dammit, I said Sam! Sam is a little smarter in the movies than he is in the books, making him easier to love, and he is indisputably the "hero" of the epic in the ancient sense of the term if not the modern one. His loyalty, depth of love and moral rightness are never in question at any point in the stories, and by dint of his simplicity he seems to be beyond the lure of the Ring. Sean Astin is indelible in the role.

STAR WARS: Luke Skywalker. Sure Vader is a bad***, but guess what: Luke owns his dad on the Death Star II, which makes Luke that much more of a bad***. Also, Luke is a hero and as such is admirable. He makes the right choices most of the time. It's those few wrong decisions -- all in the middle episode -- which also makes him interesting, and human, and a bit like you and me.

STAR TREK: Spock, of course. His Vulcan side is perhaps they way the average intellectual sci-fi fan would like to be, cold and analytical and in possession of the upper hand ethically at all times. His human side, including his capacity to love, is what makes him beloved.

DC COMICS: Batman, with Superman a close second. I actually sat here in my office for several minutes, contemplating a poster I have of Superman being surrounded by many different versions of Batman. It took me a moment to realize my heart lies with Batman, since he's what I, or anyone with good health and millions of dollars, could become with the right amount of inspiration, ambition and dedication to a cause. His various pitfalls -- anger, vengefulness, tyranny over underlings -- make him, once more, an especially real-seeming person.

MARVEL COMICS: Thor. All the reasons I love Batman fly right out the window when I consider the unbridled power fantasy that is Marvel's Thor. He's Superman with a magic hammer, and mythic gods for friends, family and enemies! Though he's suffered the indignity of multiple incarnations over the years, the central hero remains, pure and unspoiled from the mind of Jack Kirby.

                  Star Trek: Kirk
                  Star Wars: Chewie. Chewie rules!
                  Masters of the Universe: Skeletor
                  DC Comics: Wonder Woman
Marvel: Spider-Woman (original 70s version Jessica Drew). Loved the DePatie-Freleng cartoon as a kid.
                  Thundercats: Cheetara
                  GI JOE: Snake Eyes
                  Aliens: Ripley
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: Jadis, the White Witch by far---the greatest villain ever created. Read the books if ya haven't guys---and then read 'em to yer kids! (The Magician's Nephew is her origin story---and IMO the best of the
                    Narnia books)

LORD OF THE RINGS: I only know bits of the books and never saw the new
movies. As far as I'm concerned though...it'd be hard to beat GOLLUM.
GOLLUM is the epitomy of "creepy" in that Bakshi Hobbit movie...and
everywhere else I've seen the character referenced...and, as you'll see,
I love "bitter" characters. Bitter characters give me a chance to see
someone ELSE feel like the world is crashing down on them for a change!
And they're easier to emphasize with.

STAR WARS: I love what people have been saying about the merits
of Luke Skywalker....his heroism and whatnot. He's also got that
"uncool" aspect of him that I can relate to. Luke could be the baddest
mofo in the galaxy and he'd still be a sensitive uncool kinda guy
                    and I like that.
Still----my favorite character in the franchise is EMPEROR PALPITINE
his evil ways are just unmatched anywhere (except possibly
by Jadis/The White Witch). I love his smugness in SW Ep. III: ROTS
which is his chance to shine as a character---just awesome.

STAR TREK: Picard or Q. Better yet----Picard and Q together
----I could watch them go at it forever.

DC COMICS: SUPERMAN---he's the ultimate hero. The most powerful
guy in tights who never lets power corrupt him. Joker is a close second.
Joker is the definitive evil in the DCU in that he just likes to screw with
people and has made a very healthy crime career out of it because he is
really equipped to do so. I hate people like that in real life...so therefore,
he makes a great DC villain for me to love to hate.

MARVEL COMICS: Spidey. I like that this nerd has to deal with the chore
of being a superhero---and how that manifests in his civillian life---
exactly what Stan Lee intended for me to like about him, I guess!

MOTU: Tough choice. Probably Evil-Lyn---she's a hot b-word
(kinda like a White Witch ripoff).

SIMPSONS/FUTURAMA: Moe and Zoidberg---two of the saddest characters
I have ever seen---ya gotta love 'em----they're both bitter and sensitive
but choose to live their lives in different ways.

SESAME STREET: COOKIE MONSTER---nothing matters except
the pleasure principal----I can SO relate!

OK. Here are some of my faves (or second faves since there is a bit a repetition):

Star Trek: Kirk (but McCoy as a runner up: he keeps the crew running and is the emotional conscience for the capt. to Spock's logical side)

Star Wars: Wedge - no Force, no princess, no Falcon. Just him and an X-wing and he survives through all three movies!

LOTR: Frodo - He shows much bravery

DC Comics: Superman - shows a lot of humanity for a person not born on Earth

Marvel: Reed Richards - just seems like someone I wouldn't mind hanging around with

                            Underdog - Underdog
                            It's all good!
