LATE NIGHT FRIDAY 1970s TRIVIA CONTEST - WEEK #1!!

Greetings everyone, and welcome to Late Night Friday Trivia. I ran this contest for four weeks in the comic book forum, and it went pretty well. It's just for fun on my part, and I'm hoping you all enjoy it as well. I decided to move it here to the general section to include more topics & characters, and not limit the trivia to comic books only....the entire world of 1970s media is now open to the game!

We usually start out with a little musical interlude, Mego related if possible, 70's music for sure. Tonight's special guest artist is that cute little '70s tomboy Kristy McNichol, who had her own Mego doll in 1979!

    YouTube - Kristy McNichol performs

Didn't know she could sing like a bird did you? Too bad she can't, but it's a hoot to see Dennis Quaid & Mark Hamill eyeing her up, isn't it? And what was the point of the lowcut blouse? I've never seen the film THE NIGHT THE LIGHTS WENT OUT IN GEORGIA, and I truly believe I'm a better person for that.

Back to the contest...Congratulations again to my winners from the first go-rounds, MONSTERAMA2000 & TOYROOM (2x each!). The prize changes at my whim each week, so contestants can win more than once.

For any newcomers, here's da rest o' da rulz:

I'll post five (5) trivia questions related to 1970s ERA various MEGO figures or characters...not closely related, as you'll see, the paths from Mego to question can diverge greatly!

First person to answer all of them correctly will get a little prize package of a random 1970s paperback book, comics, magazines, etc...a couple random Mego Museum cards, and maybe some assorted 1970s oddball goodies I come across.
Now don't get too excited...you're not gonna get anything worth a million bucks. Actually, the junk I plan to unload on the "winner"...excuse me, I mean, the fine collectible items I plan to offer as prizes will entertain you (I hope), and we'll all have a good time.

And just maybe, if you're not too careful, you just might learn something. Or not.

As far as the answers, please try to keep them all together in one post so we don't have to jump around collecting them all-someone can beat you to the punch by doing just that, so again, all 5 in the same post. If you get one or two wrong, please correct yourself again with all five just to keep things coherant for everyone involved, thanks!

And since I don't have any anti-Googling software in place I can't stop you from internet searching. If you know all this stuff without searching, why aren't you on Jeopardy playing for real money?

Oh, and please remember that all answers are subject to the final decision of the judge, which be me, so no arguing, it's all for fun, so let's not get crazy!

So without further ado, in the words of the Immortal Navin Johnson, "Step right up and win some crap!"

MEGO STAR QUESTION #1- PLANET OF THE APES:

A great film series, not much more I can say. You can't go wrong with talking apes, you just can't.

My question is: WHAT WAS THE NAME OF TAYLOR'S SPACESHIP?

MEGO STAR QUESTION #2- DAVY CROCKETT:

Star of one of the truly classic Disney series of all time, and the character who introduced the world to fad merchandising. Disney had killed him off at the Alamo just before the craze hit, but they found a way to capitalize on him by inventing the "prequel"!

My question is: WHAT WAS DAVY CROCKETT'S FAMOUS MOTTO?

MEGO STAR QUESTION #3- ROBIN HOOD:

One of my all-time favorite heroes, the adventures of Robin Hood & his Merry Men have been adapted to film, tv, comics, and numerous books. Long before the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen made it popular, way back in 1819, Robin starred in one of the first hero team-ups.

My question is: WITH WHOM DID ROBIN HOOD GUEST-STAR ?

MEGO STAR QUESTION #4- THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO:

Ol' Ralph Hinckley got a super-suit with unlimited powers and lost the instruction manual. Did nobody think it was worthwhile to drive back out to the desert and look around for it? No, they just let him mosey on through missions, crashing into brick walls and what have you. That book's probably still laying out there!

My question is: WHICH ONE OF RALPH'S STUDENTS WENT ON TO FAME OF A MORE MUSICAL TYPE ?

MEGO STAR QUESTION #5- THE MIGHTY ISIS:

I already did an Isis question about her comic book, but since she's another of my favorite characters, here she is again. And really, can anyone ever get enough of Joanna Cameron? Seriously.

My question is: WHAT WAS THE NAME OF ANDREA THOMAS' PET?

Ok, so there you have it. On the count of three, you may begin!

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

Toyroom, Toyroom, you are '70s machine..a winner again! You're like the Mego Ken Jennings!
              The answers were of course:

              1. The Icarus was the name of the spaceship that carried Taylor & his crew to the future of Mankind, then back to our time with Cornelius, Zira, & Milo. It is not actually named in the movies, but is the official fan-designated name.
              2. "Be sure you're right then go ahead" was the motto of Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier!
3.Sir Walter Scott penned that classic team-up between Robin Hood & Ivanhoe (another Mego!) back in 1819. Rumor has it Scott intended to use Spider-Man, but Spidey was already involved fighting the Secret Crusades as Skrulls invaded the Holy Land.
              4. Michael Pare was in the excellent "Eddie & the Cruisers". Little known fact: My car stereo will actually go to volume 30 when the theme song by John Cafferty "On the Dark Side" comes on the radio...and there are only 25 settings.
              5. Isis' alter ego Andrea Thomas had a pet crow named Tut. We have crows in our backyard, they are the size of small dogs. They have enormous droppings that will cover half a picnic table top. Birds poop many times a day. I cannot imagine how filthy her office must have been since she didn't even keep him in a cage.

Congratulations, Toyroom- I'll send it out to you. Everyone come back next week for more, and tell all your friends!

And yet you seem so normal!

My favorite part is where Kristy riffs on the Rolling Stones and does the little Mick Jagger strut.

It's funny, on the blu ray Planet Of The Apes set, they have a mock ANSA promotional film and in it, they call Taylor's ship the "Liberty".

You'd think Fox, during their grandiose blu-ray set effort, would try to keep their hand on the pulse of die hard ape POTA fans and name it what the fans settled on.

Probably produced & directed by one of those "I'm a big fan of the series, although I've never really watched it and they still hired me to do this" guys.
The studios also tend to hire these guys to adapt comic book heroes to the big screen.

Come back Friday night, more trivia prizes to be had, and Toyroom can't win all of them!
